I am trying to get my touring plan down for our trip (we check in in 10 days!!!!!!!!) and we will be doing a child swap on big thunder mountain. Any ideas on where I can take the little one (almost 3) while my husband rides with my oldest daughter? Thanks! :goodvibes

You can go over to Tom Sawyer island. The only ride near Big Thunder is Splash Mountain. Big Thunder Mtn is basically the "end" of the park. There is nothing beyond it.

There's a little gift shop next to Splash Mountain you can wander through - I have done that with my little one to cool off while waiting for the rest of my family to come off BTM

Unless the 3 yr old is cranky or antsy, I would take her/him over to the seating and ride overlook and watch for them to go by and wave at them. That can be fun. There are ice cream and frozen lemonade carts nearby, so if the little one is antsy, maybe you could get one to distract them while watching for your family to go by and wave. It is always special for a younger to get a treat an older doesn't---since the olders always get to do so much more the youngers can't, it can help sooth hurt & resentful feelings.

Unfortunately, not much is near BTMRR. It's at the top of a relatively steep hill and nothing else is up there. Splash Mountain is at the foot of the hill, then further on are the barges for Tom Sayer's Island (which I imagine would be both too long an excursion and more fun to do as a family) and further still is the Country Bears Jamboree.

However, there is plenty to SEE, if you don't expect the wait to be too long. There's a nice overlook where you can watch BTMRR go around. You can also look down over the rest of the park, watch the barges and Liberty Queen ferry boat and/or grab a little snack at one of the carts in the area.

The only nearby gift shop is for Splsh, and it's down a bit of a hill and not very large, so I probably wouldn't go there unless you need some a/c.

Under Splash Mountain/Railroad Station is a small play area. I often take my 2 and 3.5 year old down there to let them burn off energy while the big kids ride BTMR and/or Splash

I second Tom Sawyer islands fort and the island paths. Lots of exploring and usually much less crowded and sometimes peacefull. The play area under the train bridge by splash is also good if it's raining or blazing hot. Lastly the frontier shooting gallery is also not far, we usually get a pretzel at the near by snack wagon, do a round of shooting and play checkers.

The last time we were there, there was a Woody/Jessie M&G in Splash Mountain exit area at some times of the day.

How about boarding the train with her at the Frontierland station and riding it around once. You go through a tiny bit of Splash mountain and see a few things along the way. Even if the family will do it together it wouldn't hurt to ride it twice.

This is what I was going to suggest. Another plus is that it is in the SHADE!

Yes, without a doubt, this. It's also near where Woody and Jessie meet.

I vote tom Sawyer island.

When my ds was 2 this is what we did while I waited 2 swap and ds had a blast exploring and playing!

There's also a tinyish playground inbetween splash's entrance and its exit

This is what we did when our kids were that young. It's a great little play area!

Woody and Jessie also meet in that area, so you can jump into their line if it's not too long.

My kids used to LOVE to play there!

I agree with the little playground but wanted to add another option. On the sidewalk between splash Mtn and POTC is a small shack house where you can play an interactive game in adventureland, pirates adventure, treasure of the seven seas. This would provide some treasure hunting time and chasing down things that will 'come to life.' Pick this up on your way back to BTMR.

Thank you all so much! You gave great answers... I was wondering about a M&G, so all those answers are perfect! :cool1:

I also recommend Tom Sawyer's Island as the little one can do whatever she wants and once the bigger kids are off Big Thunder, they can ride the raft over to the Island and meet up with you. And I'll bet the bigger ones have fun on the Island as well.
