We have decided to stay at Poly next trip (primarily d/t tikimans site!) we want to have a lagoon view of the castle and not concierge so I assume that we should request Tahiti longhouse ?correct?...what is the view really like...can you see the castle well or is it very far in the distance and you say...I think that is the castle?:magnify:

The castle is in the distance. Depends how close you want. The Grand Floridian lagoon/castle views are closer than the Poly.

We had a good castle view at the GF but it still isn't "right there". You can see most of the upper part and the lights at night and fireworks. But don't expect it to be super close up.

We did however, hear the howling from the HM every night on our October trip at the GF. It definitely carries over the water. We couldn't figure it out the first night or two - lol!

The castle is in the distance but there is no problem telling it is the castle. The trees on the other side block the bottom 1/4, I would guess. We still enjoyed watching the fireworks from the Poly shore line. You can see the color changes on the castle , no problem.

We loved the Poly and would stay there again.

If your main objective is seeing the castle, the Contemporary tower rooms are perfect for that. I think your girls would love seeing the fireworks from your balcony and there is no mistaking the castle from that view.

Just wondering what folks think who've stayed at both recently. I've stayed at both but it's been several years (well, more than several!! We've been staying at BC, YC, AKL, CBR, POFQ & POP since the last time I stayed at Poly or GF.

Thanks much!:wave2:

We stayed at both the GF and the Polynesian this summer. We've stayed at both before and in fact at the Polynesian around 30 times.

Our room in Conch Key at the GF had a great view of the MK. I could sit on our balcony and see people walking from the monorail and ferries toward the entrance. A fun but busy view. So busy that I really didn't pay much attention to the castle.

From the Polynesian, the castle is a little farther away but is framed. It is the focus of the view at least for me. It is a more "magical" view IMO.

But both are great.

BCV23 - thanks!

Which longhouse do you request for that view? Sounds lovely!

I'm one of those who does not much like the GF...rooms feel small compared to the POLY and prefer the atmosphere at the Poly - I could go for a few days and feel I've been away much longer<sigh>.

Any lagoon view room at the Polynesian should give you that view. But even if you decide to stay in a gardenvew room, each longhouse is close to at least one beach so it is a matter of a seconds long walk to see that great view.

Flounder's Friend,

I don't know what I was thinking - of course the Contemporary is a lot closer than the GF or Poly.

:)

princess lovers mom,

On my first trip to WDW as an adult I badly wanted to stay at the Poly, it was the resort I wanted to stay at as a kid but never did. I told DH I wanted to "fling open the curtins and gaze upon the castle".

Well, I flung them opened and DH started laughing hysterically!:teeth: I could gaze upon the castle but it was tiny! I had no clue the distance and scale. It was still a lovely view and we watched firworks and electric water parade every night from our room but it was not quite what I had built up in my mind!

Never the less, Poly is a lovely resort if you stay there.

thanks everyone.....that it what I thought.... be prepared for a view, but not close....

vicb:tongue: that would have been me had I not asked this question !!!!!::yes::
