What is manufactured in the US?

Bath and Body is US made in Ohio. I found out that parts were made in US and sent to other countries for assembly and sent back, how is that cost effective???
Even Kroger beef is now from Mexico and Canada, I live in the midwest...there are cows everywhere, what's with that???? I stopped buying my meat at Kroger.

All "heavy grade" consumer plastics (i.e., Rubbermaid, Little Tikes, and Step 2) are all USA-made.

Otherwise, as much as some don't want to believe it -- during our generation, we have shifted from a manufacturing workforce to a service workforce.

Did you all know that the group of islands known as The Northern Mariana is a commonwealth that can claim 'made in America'? on goods made there? This was on a major TV news ABC News 20/20 show a few years back.

And also in the Wikipedia you can find:

"The Northern Mariana Islands had successfully used its position as a free trade area with the U.S., while at the same time not being subject to the same labor laws. For example, the $3.05 per hour minimum wage in the Commonwealth, which lasted from 1997 to 2007, was lower than in the U.S. and some other worker protections are weaker, leading to lower production costs. That allowed garments to be labeled "Made in USA" without having to comply with all U.S. labor laws. However, the U.S. minimum wage law signed by President Bush on May 25, 2007, will result in stepped increases in the Northern Marianas' minimum wage to reach U.S. level by 2015.[13] The first step (to $3.55) became effective July 25, 2007, and a yearly increase of $0.50 will take effect every May thereafter until the CNMI minimum wage equals the nationwide minimum wage.

In the extreme, the island's exemption from U.S. labor laws had led to many alleged exploitations including recent claims of sweatshops, child labor, (etc, editied for this thread).[14][15]"

So just because something is stamped 'made in USA', don't be thinking its always one of our 50 states that is getting the benefit of employing American workers as you know them.

Most of the Mitsubishi vehicle models are made here in US.

The following vehicles are made in Central Illinois

Mitsubishi Endeaver - SUV
Mitsubishi Eclipse - car (convertible and regular sedan)

A full 1/3 of the GDP of China is stuff made for WalMart.

Consider that China, a country that does NOT allow for religiouis freedom, is the largest producer of nativity sets in the world. Pathetic huh????

All that cute stuff at Cracker Barrell.....China.

Yup, its scary! They own us!

I did (and still do when I visit) send an email and some times at the end of my trips I will ask the front desk if they have any customer cards (some times they do). I know it's not a really big complaint on the grand scale of things. It just seems so ironic to purchase a shirt with the American flag made in Tiawan or China.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is going to do anything since most Disney products are Made in China. Disney has gotten into trouble many times for slave labour issues, etc., so these emails are going to fall on deaf ears. We don't buy many souvies at all anymore as they are made in other countries and they are all mostly junk, especially $30.00 t-shirts. Nothing much at Disney is high quality at all...

They have stocked the WS countries with stuff made in those countries, more than likely because they can then charge so much more for that stuff as it's authentic. What products would be authentic to U.S.A.? Not trying to start a debate, just wondering...

I am trying to think of regional things. Wood carvings or instruments from Appalachia. Pottery and blankets from New Mexico or North Dakota (American Indians.) Voodoo items, pralines, beignet mix, chicory coffee, etc. from New Orleans. Original drawings/paintings from street vendors in NY. Tex-mex mixes, cowboy boots, lassos and hats from Texas. Photography from the national parks (local artists.) Lots of candy is still made in the USA (Jelly Bellies, Dum-Dums, Reecees, Hershys, Red Hots, etc.)

Disney could do it and support many small companies and artists if they wanted to!

Not to start a fight but this isn't the same as buying American from the Big Three. :sad2:

Just bought a GM vehicle! Considered foreign, but my loyalties are to the US and ended up with a Yukon. ;) I really try to buy American as much as possible.

Thank you from the hard working men and women of GM, both union and salaried who are hanging onto their jobs by a thread... if they haven't already been laid off ! We appreciate your support. :thumbsup2

Those items sound really nice! But just like it is in the Canadian pavillion, many of these products would be cheaper made overseas, I suspect. This is a big problem for me - Roots products used to be made in Canada; very high quality products. Then they sold to a U.S. company and guess where most of the products are made? China!

It's very upsetting, but since most of the U.S. and Canadian pavillion are stocked with items made overseas, it's very telling on the part of Disney, don't you think?

My hubby and I spend thousands of dollars more on products made in Cananda and U.S. (I would hope some of you would also support my country since many of us buy U.S. products too), but we are a minority as most of our friends and family do not. We spent $4,000 each on bedroom sets for our kids as they were handmade in Montreal - what do most of our friends/family buy? Cheap crap made in China and the same goes for clothes, toys, etc., There are many of us who would buy U.S. and Canadian made products in Epcot, but sadly, I don't think it would be enough for Disney to justify the expense and time they would have to put into it.

Sad, Tiger

This has been one of my pet peeves with Epcot.
When you go to World showcase you can purchase all kinds of items from the respective countries. In london teas & china, Italy- perfumes, Mexico, China, Paris... all these countries have stuff from the country. You get to the American Pavillion and Nothing, nada, zipp. All junk from China. You mean Disney couldn't find one mom and pop business to crank out some type of souvie?

Wow, that is a great point. I wonder if anyone has ever brought this question up to Disney? I'm sure it wouldn't change anything but that certainly is ironic.

New Balance! Lawrence, Ma & Brighton Ma I think. I am not sure if they ahve a facotry in Maine, but they def have some in Mass

We are also trying very hard to buy items made in the U.S.A.

I purchased Nordicware cookware and am very happy with it. I also read that Calphalon One is manufactured in the U.S.

I also purchased Fiesta Ware because that is made in the U.S. We've really tried very hard to look at labels on everything (especially items we eat off.)

I got sick of seeing report after report about lead on toys, contaminated food and medicines, etc. coming out of China.

PEZ are made in CT - also wiffle balls and bats are CT made
so stock up on these items for all those people who will only except usa made items

Misty handbags are made in California. They are VERY nice. Their signature pattern is somewhat like Louis Vuitton. I just ordered one. Free shipping this month.

New Balance has a very nice factory store in Lawrence, MA with incredible prices. They redid one of the old mills and it is just lovely inside. I love to watch the change of shift there because all the employees go running in wearing their New Balance sneakers. It must be a requirement of working there. LOL!

I  my fiestaware! and i love that "made in USA" is on each piece.

I was looking for a cookie sheet one day and everything I looked at was made in China. Its getting hard to find anything made in the U.S. anymore. I found a pair of socks one day and was shocked. We do our best to buy Made in the usa products but its getting harder every day.

ITA. I don't want to go through the never ending debate again (enough of that on the Community Board  ) but I think this is one of the most mis-understood concepts ever. I know Americans work at these plants. But the HUGE *Profits* don't stay in the USA but go right back to Japan.

Years ago my dad hated to buy American cars because they weren't as good as foreign but he still did *to support the land that he loves*. The last decade or so my sweet stubborn dad now proudly only buys American because *They're better than foreign now!* (gotta love my daddy, and he's right! :thumbsup2
