What is manufactured in the US?

Not to start a fight but this isn't the same as buying American from the Big Three. :sad2:

I disagree with you. The majority of the workers (UAW workers and staff) are American workers, born and bred here and trying to make a living like everyone else! In fact, if you check out many of the cars labeled the Big Three are actually made in Mexico and Canada! I know because one of my former cars had the made in Canada sticker inside the driver door.

Many of the cars made by the Big Three have Mitsubishi engines under the hoods!

ITA. I don't want to go through the never ending debate again (enough of that on the Community Board  ) but I think this is one of the most mis-understood concepts ever. I know Americans work at these plants. But the HUGE *Profits* don't stay in the USA but go right back to Japan.

Years ago my dad hated to buy American cars because they weren't as good as foreign but he still did *to support the land that he loves*. The last decade or so my sweet stubborn dad now proudly only buys American because *They're better than foreign now!* (gotta love my daddy, and he's right! :thumbsup2

Several models of cars and lots of other goods are actually made overseas or the company is owned by foreign companies but they just label them with the American brand name.
So, buyer beware and alert!

You are so RIGHT! About a year ago, there was a special on Dateline or 20/20 that talked about incentives given to US Corporations that off-shore their work. I don't know why this is brushed under the carpet. Obama should immediately pull the plug on these incentives. I would love to know exactly who implemented these incentives.

You must not remember President Bill Clinton pushing for and getting NAFTA approved. It is a free trade pact agreed upon my US, Mexico and Canada in 1993. It eliminated all trade barriers over a fifteen year period.:sad1:

How do you feel about the fact that your Pontiac Vibe is built on a Toyota Corolla frame and is the exact same vehicle as the Toyota Matrix built in a factory producing mostly Toyota products?

I feel good about it, considering it was 1. made in the United States and 2. purchased from a US company. I'm not anti-Toyota (ok, I might be anti-China and Mexico), I just prefer to support an American based company.

Just wanted to also add for everyone else: Softsoap and Irish Spring soaps are made here too.

Sorry, but MOST LL Bean items are NOT made in the USA. Probably close to 80% are NOT made in the USA!

Absolutely! As a Canadian, we get Free Shipping on LL Bean products that are not imported - good luck finding anything. I checked through entire catalogue and found 1 item, so I called them. Hardly any of their products are made in USA.

Similar to New Balance (I used to be a runner and they were made in USA), as well as Crocs. They both have plants in North America, yet most, if not all of their shoes are made outside of USA or Canada.

Tiger :(

Hi everyone great thread! Here's another product I believe is made in
the US :
The Burt's Bees line of products...I think they are made in Durham
North Carolina which is not far from me at all!!

It bothers me that this thread which started as a wonderful idea has turned into an automobile debate. I really thought that when I saw this thread I was going to find out a lot of information about everyday little items that could and should be purchased MADE IN THE USA. I think that in the long run it is more important to "convert" people into buying Made in The USA products on an everyday basis than a once every 5-10 year big purchase such as a vehicle. Truth be told if this becomes habit and routine daily then those big purchases will also follow suit!

I am a Bzz Agent and am shocked to see that none has mentioned this so I will. Florida's Natural Orange Juice is 100% a Product of the USA. Here is the exact statement " Believe it or not, Simply Orange and Tropicana import some of their juice from other countries and blend it with juice from the U.S. Fortunately, Florida's Natural's oranges come from Florida and only Florida. So the next time you buy orange juice, check the back of the carton first to make sure your juice is 100% American".

For me that is a huge statement and it really sunk in. I never thought about something so seemingly trivial as OJ not being made here. Nor did I ever stop to realize just how important that really might be. I encourage all of you to consider it too!

This is very interesting, I'm glad you shared this. :)

No one has mentioned this and as a Home Consultant, I feel the need to spread some knowledge :)

Longaberger!

All baskets are made in Ohio. Granted Pottery has been made in China, but a new line of pottery is available for preorder now and available next month with the regular line and it is made in West Virginia. The baskets are awesome and to meet some of the folks who weave them is amazing, some of the nicest people ever. Every time I have been around them, I am humbled and proud to be part of such a great company. Well these are at least my slightly biased and humbled opinions. ;)

I'm a HUGE Florida Natural fan for that very reason. It's a coop of farms in Florida that grow the oranges.

What a bummer about LLBean. I think I might email them about their Made in the USA products and see what they tell me.

I really like this blog for toys.

Bzz Agent - you can check it out at www.bzzagent.com! It is a program based on word of mouth advertising. They send you product samples, coupons, etc. in return you "Bzz" about them and report back. You also receive MyPoints for doing so. It's free to join. A great way to try new products free - I have a lot of fun doing it, if it sounds like something you might be interested in you should check it out!:goodvibes

ITA - Have you been to Freeport lately? It's actually sad, the HUGE LL Bean building with is like 75% empty from where the manufacturing used to be. Now it's mostly just a distribution center. The town has devolved from a big manufacturing location for LL Bean to a giant retail mall outlet where most of the products are made overseas. DeLorme has a huge plant in Freeport also, although I'm not sure if they manufacture there or if it too has become just a distribution center.

If your store carries the Jiffy brand of baking mixes (blue box) , they are made in Chelsea Michigan and give a great tour of their factory as well if you are ever in the area.
