Sorry to anyone who lives here or loves Oklahoma, but I CANNOT stand living here! Every business we have dealt with here has about the combined IQ of a rock.

For the pizza delivery people, we live on X Circle, not X Drive, there is a difference. Same for the people who do the lawn care, the FED EX guys and UPS. We have lived here 3 years and they STILL can't get it right after many attemps to let them know.

Customer service is awful. Today is the last straw. I special ordered a captains bed for my son on March 27. I knew very well it could take 6-8 weeks to come in. NO problem. Well, at 9 weeks after not hearing a word, I called and politely requested the status of my order. They would call me back. NO call. Called again, told it was back ordered the salesman who sold it got fired because of problems, so sorry, it will be another few weeks. We asked them to please call us when it comes in. Fastforward to Sat(June 17) we stopped by the store to see if there was any word on the bed. O gee, it is here. We will deliver it Monday morning. Great. Wonderful. Finally.

SOOOOOO, the truck pulls up and the delivery guys says, "Wow a full bed is a tight squeeze in this room." Huh? I ordered a twin bed. I have my order reciept in hand that shows a twin. He says he asked the manager why there was an order for a twin mattress for a full bed, and they both shrugged it off. We didn't order anything else. So the delivery guy calls the mgr and tells him the problem, and the order number is wrong. Now I am confused, I want to go check and see which I paid for twin, or full. Also, the mgr is like, "Gee, we are really sorry, I will call and see if there is a twin in stock and if it could be rushed. Yeah, right. So far I have never witnessed anything close to a rush in the entire state of Oklahoma. My son has been waiting so long for his big boy bed. I don't want to wait another month to get a bed. I think 3 months is plenty. I know the policy is no refunds on special orders, but am I crazy for thinking I should get something other than, gee, we are sorry? They had to pull this order up at least 3 times from our phone calls and they didn't catch their mistake.

UGHHHHHHHHHH! :furious: Thanks for letting me vent.

Ugggg!!! Just reading your post makes me upset with them too!!!

I guess the people at that store are not the sharpest knives in the drawer!!

Sad thing is this store has been in SW Oklhahoma for like 100 years. They recently opened a second store in our town. They are not a cheap outlet or anything. My cost for the bed was around 850 dollars for just the bed and mattress.

It just floors me. It has been one hour since the mgr called me. No word on what is going to happen. Soooo, now I am stuck waiting. I wonder, since the bed here isn't mine, can I just cancel the order?

did you pay by credit card? If so -- just dispute the charge and tell the store to come and pick up the bed they delivered.

If you have a legitimate gripe about specific businesses that is understandable, but please don't blame the entire state of Oklahoma. I happen to know lots of intelligent people who live there and many great businesses that are located there. Sorry you ran across a few that are not the best businesses in town.

Well, when over half of the business you deal with-everything from the mall to the grocery store to services have people who repeatedly screw things up you gotta wonder. It started the FIRST night we were in this house with a pizza delivery national chain. We tried and tried over the past 3 years to explain to them their mistake and they just kept going to the wrong house. We just stopped ordering from them. I get tired of standing on the corner looking for their car.

I cannot stop who people we place orders with from using UPS or FED EX. We had a laptop, Christmas presents, birthday presents, you name it, it was left at another house. Thank God they are nice people and let us know. Every time we call the delivery business and tell them about the problem. Every time they say they will make a note. No difference the next time.

These are not nitpicky complaints. I have never lived in a place where there is such an overwhelming amount of people who just don't care to do the job right. We had a lawncare company try to tell me that they had sprayed our yard on a time and date when I was there waiting for them to arrive! After 3 sprayings at the WRONG house they finally figured out I wasn't lying.

I am sure there are people here who know what attention to detail means, sadly, after 3 years I have yet to find any of them.

Thank you, from an OKIE!!

hmmm...I like Oklahoma...but I have lived here all my life so I wouldn't know any difference...

Note to self: don't move to Oklahoma. :rotfl: I'm sorry OP, I can understand your frustration. But as an outsider, it kind of gave me a chuckle. :rolleyes1 Hopefully you'll get it worked out soon.

I'd never move to Oklahoma either..but for different reasons. It's just too flat and there are way too many small towns for my liking.

Maybe if you moved to 'the big city' (in this case being either Tulsa or OKC), things would be different? :confused3

I think places should not be allowed to have streets named like that! It is way too confusing. We have that in my village too. We have A Ave and A Rd. A Road actually starts on A Ave and also ends at A Ave. They both run North to South, if I give directions to get to my house (my street is off the Ave) I make sure to tell people to turn left at the A with McDonalds and Burger King on the corner so they get the right one.

No for your other complaint, I don't think it's just an Oklohoma problem, customer service and doing the job right the first time seems to be foreign to many businesses now.

Actually, the western part of the beautiful Ouachita Mountains is in the eastern part of the state. It's gorgeous and just about empty so the small town part is correct at least. :teeth:

Wow, I've been in Oklahoma for almost 8 years now (military also, Air Force) and have never had those kinds of problems. Which part of the state are you in? I live just outside of Oklahoma City. Pizza Hut, Dominos always able to find our house, UPS, FED Ex no problems either. Must be a regional thing cause I find most Okies to be friendly and helpful.

The OP's experience seems to mirror the sentiments of that of my best friend's family. they live in OK and want out as fast as possible; they're looking to move to the Northeast or California.

Small update on the bed situation. (Not like anyone truly cares, but what the heck) I decided to go to the store to speak with the manager about how soon the correct bed could arrive and to verify the correct price of the bed versus what I paid. Of course this was 2 hours after he said he would "call me right back".

Anyway, I saw him sitting at a table in the store with someone who was appeared to be a possible supplier. Definately not a customer. I found someone to speak to and she called out to the manager if he had heard anything on my bed. Oh, yeah, he says, it could be a while longer, maybe 3 weeks. No apology. Nothing. The poor saleslady was really shocked at the situation. I asked her to please double check the correct price of the bed. (Remember I wanted a twin, they ordered a full). Sure enough, I was charged for the full. The saleslady looked around for the mgr, and he was nowhere around. She wasn't sure how to take care of my 90$ refund. She just went ahead and credited the credit card, noted it on my paperwork and said she would let the mgr figure it out later.

I was very polite about the whole thing. However, my husband is really angry. It took all I had to keep him out of the store later that day.

For those of you who love it here I am happy for you. While people are for the most part friendly, there is much lacking when it comes to doing jobs the right way. This isn't a tiny town. For those who know the state, we are stationed at Fort Sill.

How ridiculous. Poor customer service happens in all 50 states. I'm sure in all 49 other states, there are inept pizza delivery boys too. There are lots of proud Oklahomans on this board. I would never dream of insulting a whole state on here.
So, in answer to your original question, there is nothing wrong with Oklahoma.

UGHHHHHHHHHH! :furious: Thanks for letting me vent.

You must be dealing with Darby's. Sorry, but half the town could have warned you about this one. It's just one of the perks of living in a not-so-small podunk town. You learn quickly where to shop, who to deal with, etc.

Sounds like you live on an unfamiliar street for most delivery people. I feel for you, because we live on a street with the same name as the major thoroughfare in Ft. Sill. We haven't had the delivery problems you've experienced, though. Seems to me that a simple reminder to the delivery guys would solve your problem. I know our pizza guy has everything on computer, and our address issue is noted in bold on all deliveries. I'm sure that UPS/FedEx are capable of doing the same. Maybe your disdain for all things OK is coming across in your repeated attempts? If so, remember, we Oklahomans might not be so smart :rolleyes2 but we know how to irritate others. :)

Try to keep in mind that you're living in a military town more or less. That means that lots of the stores are dealing with training new people ALL OF THE TIME due to military transfers. Yes, it can be a headache sometimes, but the right attitude goes a long way. Stereotyping an entire state because of bad customer service you've received is a little over the top. All is does is vent your frustrations and tick a lot of people off.

It's obvious how you feel about Oklahoma, but your time here is limited. Your DH will finish his assignment and hopefully be transferred on. That's one of the joys and blessings of living in a military town. We've said goodbye to some good military friends over the past few years, but there have also been some that we were glad to see the last of simply due to their negative comments about our state.

Hope everything improves for you. Before another big furniture purchase let me know and I'll hook you up with a great discount. Ah...the perks of knowing where to shop.... :goodvibes

I was going to mention that. I live in western Arkansas and there is some very pretty landscape in Oklahoma. Also I thought about mentioning that maybe the problem is the same one we have in Arkansas -- all of the people moving here and griping about everything. Just kidding sort of.

This is how I felt when I lived in Florida. I'm feeling your frustration - truly. :sad2:

I can't believe a fellow Oklahoma State grad just said that! I think there are many intelligent Oklahomans out there. :confused3
