What is it like in Aug???

We went in August 2006 & it was indeed HOT! We would go to the parks in the a.m., leave around noon & head for the hotel pool & then return in the evening. To me, the lines were not bad at all. We used FP but even without using them, the longest we waited was for 40 minutes (I think). Anyway, we're going again...in August...can't wait!

And no matter how hard you try, your hair will not cooperate! :rotfl:

Sometimes we'd go in the pool during the day and then head to the parks later in the afternoon when it had cooled down a teensy bit.

I have excellent Florida hair, for some reason my hair LOVES the super heat and humidity, when we visit its the only time of the year I have consistent great hair days and don't have to do anything to it.

OP it will be hot but depending on when in August you go the crowds may not be that bad. After the 15th is value season and the closer to the end of the month the less crowded it gets (even with free dining promo). I think the lower crowds and shorter lines are worth putting up with the heat plus the great deals help out alot too.

I swore I would never, ever go in August, but i am now eating those words. :rotfl2: Have a girls only trip planned 8/27-8/30. I grew up in Texas, but I have lived up North for so long now that I am no longer acclimated to the heat. I am still questioning my sanity.

I'm a New Yorker, hate the heat, hate the humidity, so I thought I was going to be miserable in Florida in August . . .

Ok it IS HOT, and HUMID. It's hot and humid all day, and all night, it doesn't cool down in FL at night the way it does here in NY, so it's boiling hot, and way too humid first thing in the morning, as soon as you step foot out of the hotel.

The good news is, it didn't bother me anywhere near as much as I expected it to. Everything is flat there, not too much in the way of hills, or stairs to climb, so the walking about is pretty easy. Most everything there is air conditioned, so you get plenty of opportunities to escape the heat as well.

Drink plenty of fluids, and get into the A/C when ever you have a chance. When you start to feel too hot, or worn down, sit down for a bit, have a nice cold drink, and in no time you'll be ready to go again. Make meals a nice long break, and soak up the cool air. We go pretty much from rope drop to park closing every day, and have no problems, even in the August heat.

we always go in the summer and went in august in 2008 yes its going to be hot but really it isnt that bad go to the parks in the morning go back to the hotel for a swim then go back later in the day you wil be alright just have fun

We were there this past August. Duh, yes it was hot. Orlando in August who would have gussed. We were prepared for the sudden down pours and only had one our first day. Got a snack and by the time we were done so were the showers. We carried the ponchos every where we went put them in zip loc bags to keep them compact. If we got hot we just got on a ride. The way Disney is set up you are not out in the sun for hours at a time. Even the ouside lines are pretty comfortable. My husband is a teacher so we always go on vacation in the summer. The heat doesn't really bother us, it can get pretty hot and humid in NJ.

same here living in new jersey the heat doesnt bother me it gets HOT and HUMID in new jersey the past few days have been around 90 with high humidity here in central NJ tomorows going to be 93 and thursday is going to be 94 and thats when im going to 6 flags so i guess thast will be a practice for disney  the only time the heat bothers me is if i get migraines because of the heat if its humid i get terrible migraines thats the only thing i fear when i go to disney in the summer time but i never get any there maybe because i wear hats?

 So i guess it might get hot:scared1: And as the PP said we are from MI and i can handle the pool on a 70ish day but im no good in the heat! Is there any hope? Oh ya its 4 adults going so we dont have to stay in the park but i really want to..

no no hope what so ever especially this summer. We were in the World from 5/31 to 6/9 and it was soo much hotter and humid then when we went last year at the beginning of August. This summer is horrible!

Hello everyone, my first post and I am also going the last week of august to the first week of September. Still I am looking forward to it. First time in august but its the best time for us this year. Disney being Disney I am sure it will be a great time. Those who go at this time regularly please keep up the information needed for us new comers who visit this time of year.

We've been to WDW three times in August (1989, 2008, 2009). Spray fans help, but we used the neck wraps that you can soak last year and those really helped. Can't imagine going to WDW without them now.

We went one year for my DS B-day Aug 21st, and I have to say never again

Plan on being Hot Hot Hot with a sprinkle of Wet Wet Wet during the daily Florida Showers, ,make sure you pack rain ponchos and tote your bottles of water, go early to the parks, take a mid day break and return in the evening when the sun goes down and you will be fine.

I'm headed down for my 4th August trip this summer. Summer isn't my first choice of time to travel but it is our only choice. We have always had a good time with some careful planning and a positive attitude. We walk through the gift shops rather than along the streets when possible. We spend lots of time on the longer air-conditioned rides. We take advantage of the late evening EMHs. We schedule the majority of our TS meals for lunch. It is amazing how lunch in the air conditioning refreshes one! We usually limit our time in Animal Kingdom because it seems to be the hottest park. We have occasionally had really good luck and hit a cooler bit of weather. Two years ago, the temps dropped to the low 80s during the day and we actually felt a refreshing breeze! We have also been at Disney when the temps were in the 40s and feel the heat is much better than freezing. Hope you have a really great trip!

My kids asked me if this is what the inside of a volcano feels like:rotfl:

After 2 August trips, we are ready to do it all over again:goodvibes

We have gone in August the last 5 years, and are going back in 41 days!! My DH is a minister, so Summer works for him and our school-age kids.
Be prepared..even the back of your hands sweat!! BUT.....I love it! Take breaks in the A/C, ADRs for 1 or 2 are great for reviving the family. DRINK..DRINK...DRINK..we have learned that cranky = thirsty.
Don't overdo it..a headache is one of the first signs of heat stroke..get intothe A/C and drink some water.
As for crowds..we never waited longer than 30 minutes for a ride. Use FP, and do what you can, and enjoy what you do!!

We will be there the 26th to the 29th. We are only going to the parks 2 times other then that we are going for the wedding open house, my:bride: DN is getting married MARCH of 2012. So my DS and i + the DF are going for just a fast trip to get all the info so maybe it will not be to bad. My DS and i:hug: are looking forward to the shops and DTD.:yay:
