What is included at Ports of Call?

This may be a really stupid question but I am feeling very overwhelmed today trying to decide what cruise to book! Can you tell me what is included in the price of the cruise when you get off the ship at the various ports of call. I know there is food on CC, but are the meals included at Nassau, Matazlan, etc.? What is there to do that doesn't cost an additional fee? Is it mostly laying on the beach/shopping that is free? Do you need to plan (and pay for) excursions at the various ports of call?? Or are there a lot of free/included activities. I am so confused...so sorry if this seems obvious to you pros! Thanks for all your help!

Meals at non-private islands are not included. Shore excursions are also not included. They are often cheaper if you book independently vs. booking with the ship tours. Public beaches are usually free or very low cost (under $5). Many public beaches have unbrellas or chairs for a nominal rental fee for the day (under $10).

Once you step foot off the ship at a port of call it's just like a regular vacation where you have to pay for whatever you want to do.
If you stay on the ship, or go back to the ship, the food outlets are open and you won't pay for food there.

The only port where food is included is Castway Cay. However, if your thinking about the Alaskan cruises, you're on your own!

This is very helpful! Thank you everyone! I suppose you can spend as much or as little time at the ports as you want. Get off and walk around the cities for a bit, do some shopping and then get back on the ship when you run out of things to do or get hungry? You all are the best...I'm going to need you lots during the next year and a half! Get ready for me!
