It's my job to simplify our DVC records. We have added on many times, and I think we have too many boxes, folders etc.

Other than the deeds, is there a short list of what must be kept?

Thank you.
Bobbi

PS. I am really talking about unsigned copies of documents that we did sign and then have copies of the signed copies....I am guessing that I don't NEED the unsigned copies any more. Is that correct?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has kept "too much"! I keep the current planner, plus our original ring binder as well as the POS nad the original documents. Of course, I always have to remind myself to throw away every scrap of paper that comes for DVC that isn't "NEEDED". I just like how they look so I tend to keep them around.;)

Well I am a greater saver of anything Disney, so in various places I have 10 years worth of DVC materials, lol. I say various places because I have lived in 4 different places over the past 4 years during my relocation to Chicago.

In fact, I just passed a storage box in my garage where I spotted my original DVC carry bag lol. Maybe one day this stuff will be worth something!

OK, yes, I will keep the little POS booklets, 1 for each home. Thanks, Diane, Bobbi

Wow! I reach a point when it just "gets to me." ...and apparently, I've reached that point! Yes, we do have a backpack, that has a Mickey Glove, but we did use it once, I didn't particularly like it, I can't believe that I'm saying that. However, I do have 2 of the canvas bags still in their plastic bag. I've given away no fewer than 6 of them.

I just realized that each of these 7 boxes have "member benefits" but they're out of date.

The most important things is the Deed when it is paid off and stamped (the original) and the note that will be stamped paid in full when it is satisfied...
The original contract is important for reference only or if you plan on suing Dinsey to make them stick to the contract. Other than that the contract is FYI as Disney has a lot more $ and lawyers and can interpret the contrcat a little differently then us.
You should always hold on to notes that are satisfied on anything for a fair period of time as this is your proof it was paid in full and it is not unheard of for mistakes to happen!

Aside from the deeds!! :cheer2: Let's see! ;) I have a case of hats in assorted colors!! :confused3 and another box with about six or seven canvas bags. :rolleyes1 Then, I have the box full of "stuff" from that 2005 Members Cruise!

I wonder if they will buy any of this stuff back!! :rotfl2:

I sorted DVC paperwork this summer, too!!! After asking some questions here, I kept the deeds (actually I have Xerox copies of the front pages of my deeds in a folder in my file cabinet, while the original deeds are in my lockbox at the bank) the POS booklets, and the Title Insurance documents. I wanted to throw those out but someone said they were good for the life of your ownership, not just while they were searching the deed when you buy, so it was easy enough to keep them. I think I kept those copies of the stuff I signed. Altogether it's in one of those accordion-style file folders. I recycled all the old handbooks as the new ones came out.

Ebay springs to mind :rotfl:

well I bought last year and added on twice so far . I have a 30 quart box filled so far with my binder kept separate. I should go through my stuff too :lmao:

How pathethic am I that I am jealous that I won't be getting a tote since I am buying a resale??

:lmao:

I figured I should save the paperwork that shows what we paid for our contracts since two were purchased resale. If we were to sell for more than we paid, we would need that info for capital gains tax.

Disney Doll, what do you mean by "All the initial" paperwork. That "all" is what I was trying to eliminate!
Thanks.

I would keep the disclosure documents (the booklet for your resort and the one for the multi-state) you got at time of sale, the original contracts (signed ones), the signed deed, and any satisfaction of mortgage document. However, if the question is what do you need to have later to prove ownership and transfer your interest (will, gift, or sale), the answer is actually none of it as long as all the documents are recorded in the public records in Florida, which they should be and you can find out by going here and doing a records search with your name: http://www.occompt.com/orfaq.html

Thank you...I have just checked and our WDW holdings are recorded, but not the newest ones.

I also keep each year's dues statement since it shows the property taxes I paid. I deduct the property taxes on my tax return so I want to have the data to back up that deduction, just in case.
