I have 3 teenagers, son 18, daughters 14 and 13. What is hot for teenagers this year. My son is a senior in high school, and my daughters are in 9th and 8th grade. I like to pay cash for Christmas so I tend to start early. Any suggestions?

I Touch is DD's favorite thing. We upgraded her nano last Christmas and got her a Flip Camera (used twice!). She wants a nice cell phone, but we do Tracfone.
I Pads are great but very expensive. DD wants a Kindle or Nook this year...so do I!

Don't know much about Kindle or Nook. DS is getting a Mac for graduation so I don't think he would need an I pad. One of my DD bought her own laptop a couple of weeks ago. They got camera and a video camera last year for Christman. I am at a loss.

DH and I have 3 kids too-- DS is 19 and DD's are 14 and 11, so real similar to the ages of yours. :goodvibes As far as gift ideas, how about a surprise trip? It could be as big or small as you want it to be. We've done this several times for our family and have made some great memories. Plus, it makes Christmas shopping a whole lot easier. :thumbsup2

Another idea would be to adopt a needy family for the holidays, and forego a big gift exchange of your own this year. (Your local shelter could connect you with someone that desperately needs help.) Get your kids onboard with the idea and bargain shop together for that family. :santa:

I know these are "unconventional" ideas, but my kids generally agree with the thought that we have enough "stuff" already. They really haven't minded the years when we've done trips instead of gifts, etc. so it's been a win-win situation for everyone. :cool2:

I don't know whats hot for teens, bit here are some suggestions.

Gift cards to favorite stores
Game system or latest games if already have one
Ipod touch
laptop/netbook
small flatscreen TV
Designer purse
make-up
favorite perfume/cologne
clothes
Are they into sports, what about equipment/apparel for that
lift tickets
movie passes
gas cards if your oldest has a car

DS17 is also a high school senior this year - he has asked for a TV (22") to take to college with him next year. He will also take the PS3 with him, which will leave DS15 without a game system. So I think DS15 will be getting a PS3.

DS21 told me he'll probably ask for a new bed! He is moving into a new apartment at college and has a bigger bedroom. He's so fed up with trying to sleep on his twin bed. Interesting request....not sure what we'll do with that one yet.

If your DS is heading off to college next year, I don't recommend buying the latest, most expensive ipod - they get stolen very quickly! I speak from experience.

Tough ages - everything they want is so expensive!

My 16 yr old DD is asking for a short Disney Trip for NYE. :rotfl: But honey we were just there in April, we are going in Nov. 2010 and April of 2011. I can't do NYE too. Her response I don't want anything for Christmas but that, wait maybe a few things for Christmas but not a lot.:rotfl:

How about things for there rooms. Last Christmas my DD received all new bedroom items, like quilt set, area rug, curtains, lamps, pillows.
She is now asking for a desk in her room or a vanity and mirrored doors for her closet.

What have they asked for and haven't received or maybe wished they had? A new cell phone, tickets to a concert or sporting event.

Good luck. Last Xmas I thought what am I going to get my DD this Christmas, Well, now I am thinking of so much I can get her but how to cut it down. And Disney will not be it, I just can't, really she can't, her days from school are all accounted for already. :) with Nov and April, she shouldn't have agreed to Nov if she wanted NYE. I keep telling her next year.

I'm trying to stay away from the "What's Hot" thing. Instead I'm focusing on getting things that would be used/ enjoyed.

DD18 - our in-house fashionista wants a specific designer handbag, more of a tote really. I know she'd use it - she's starting college next week and she's not the backpack/ messenger bag sort-of girl. She'd use that daily as her book bag. A bit pricey but I am considering it.

DSD18 - would probably prefer money to spend as she sees fit. Not much fun wrapping money and presenting it as a gift, but that's probably the gift she'd appreciate the most.

DD12 (nearly 13 by Christmas) - Has asked for an upgrade from her iPod Nano to an iTouch. She'll borrow her big sister's every chance she gets so I know it will be used. My problem is that she's stereotypical ADHD and is so careless that she'd misplace her head if it wasn't attached to her body.

We have no idea what we should get for my 20 year old stepson - employed full time, living on his own etc. His tastes exceed our budget so it's always a challenge to find him something he'd appreciate!

There are a lot of good ideas here!

I have a dd 18 first year of college and a DS 20 still not on his own but works away from home 2 weeks at a time. I was thinking about Garmins but that was it.

Please keep them coming because i don't have a clue!

Thanks so much!!!

My DD is 14 and in the 9th grade. Some of the things that are big in our area and will probably still be popular at Christmas are:

Clothes and gift cards for clothes
Uggs - Bailey Button and Classic short in Funky colors
Urban Decay Eyeshadow sets
Smashbox makeup
MAC eyeshadow and lipglosses
Fishing tackle boxes (for makeup)
Sephora and/or Ulta Gift Cards
Pink Sugar perfume
Bath and Body Works stuff
Kindles or Nooks
iPod Touch
iTunes gift cards
gift certificates to a local nail salon
Pink sweatpants and yoga pants
Salon Strength Flat Iron - Chi or Baby Bliss

My DD14 wants more TOMS shoes. That's all so far. Maybe a new Vera bag. For the first time in a couple of years, I don't think she wants more Uggs but I'm sure they'll still be hot.

My DD 13 almost 14, will probably want a laptop. But, she isn't getting one any time soon. That said, I will probably get her a few small gifts like fingernail polish sets, a wallet, and some small $5 gift cards for places she likes to eat or get snacks at while shopping at the local mall or town center. Then, I will get her one big gift card to Holister $75-$100. I do not buy her electronics, because I have learned she takes much better care of them if she saves up and buys them herself.;)

Since you're buying one -
If you’re a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac with Apple education pricing from May 25 through September 7, 2010, you can get a free 8GB iPod touch.* No wonder they call these the best years of your life.

my dd in 6th grade ask for a nano ipod. Recently she's been looking around for squishies but those are sold out. If i find some i will buy those. It's hard because dd's B-day is alo in Dec.

Here are some things i'm getting for her b-day and x-mas..

nano ipod
ipod speakers
gift card to Bath and Body works
sqishies
claires gift card.
Vans store gift card
clothes

dunno what else.

We got ds 15, a 79 camaro this summer, so he's getting car parts. I told him I'd probably be wrapping pictures of tires or wheels and putting them under the tree.

OT - My first brand new car was a '78 Camaro. I LOVED that car. Had to trade it in when I had my son in '87. Kind of hard to put a car seat in the back seat of a Camaro! :rotfl:
