Hi,
In choosing a home resort, I would like to know...what DVC resorts and types of rooms are hard to get at 7 months, i.e. you need to own at that resort to stand much chance?

Also, specific ones that I would like to know about are BWV standard view and AKV savannah view.

Thanks,
Matthew

Hard to get at 7 months:
BCV esp during F&W
AKV esp Concierge
VWL - during Christmas

That's just my experience, I also hear BWV standard is hard to get cuz of the cheap points.

BWV boardwalk view can be hard to get too during busy times (food & wine, december).

Difficult:

Grand Villas anywhere.

Anywhere/anything month of December. Also, holiday time year round can be difficult.

BCV and VWL at many times because they are small resorts (best to call exactly 7 months out). BCV at food/wine time (Sep to Nov).

BWV standard view (20% of resort) and boardwalk view (15%) much of the year. other preffered views often open.

AKV concierge and value point cost (both are small number of rooms) at any time. Once Kidani is open probably should be fairly easy to get savanna view many times of year.

BWV standard and boardwalk views are hard to get. Just this week I checked to see if either were available for early May and nothing for my dates for early May (a little slower time). The 7 month window is not yet even open for this catergory. I called since I'm an owner and thought I would check before the 7 month window openned, but nothing (actually a couple of assorted days throughout my stay, not for the length of my stay). This is why I bought in at the BWV since standard rooms are always my choice.

What about slower times of the year. I wanted to try for BW or BC for the beginning of November or beginning of May...Anyone have experience this time of year? Thanks.

Lori

We just closed and got in the system. We own at BWV and today I tried to book 11 night in May starting the 11th. I could not get std view or Boardwalk view the first 4 nights. I had to go w/ preferred which I think is a waste at the same point amount as Boardwalk view. And that is at the 8 month mark.

Beginning November is definitely NOT slow. Food & Wine Fest in full swing plus usually Jersey Week in there somewhere. Just my opinion, but if you don't own there (and reserve at 10 or 11 months) you won't get BWV early November.

Out last 2 trips were AK in December (booked at about 4 months out) and BC in June (booked at the 7 month mark). When I made my reservations for the Decemeber trip, BC was also available.
I have also stayed at WL in June and that was booked 3 months out. Someone just got WL for Christmas week :thumbsup2
Anything can happen ;)

What about 4th of July week? Also is anyone bothered by the new DVC computer system not being able to view any availabilities until the exact day you are able to book at your 7 month window!

Hard to get includes:
  • AKV concierge.
  • Anything at AKV, VWL, BCV & BWV during certain times like Dec.
  • GCV 2 queen rooms
  • HH during summer.
  • Any GV or Beach House option.
  • VB during Xmas to early April other than studios and Inn rooms possibly.

on a similar note, we are planning on using out SSR developer points for out annual september trip and bank our 2008 points into 2009. our DPs expire on september 20. since you can only book DPs at the 7 month mark, do you think we will have a hard time getting SSR 2 bedroom for September if we book at the exact 7 month window? i am nervous that since we are looking to use them right before they expire, there won't be anything available and the DPs will have no value to us. Do you think the opening of Treehouse Villas help us by increasing inventory, or hurt us because of increased interest in SSR?

I can't imagine SSR being sold out at the 7 mo window for Sept. It's likely other options will be available as well other than the holiday.

We've never had any problems with the first week in November (usually election day until the 11th). My home resort is BCV's so far we've been able to get 2 bedroom villas at WL every time we've requested. Next year we're going to try a 1 bedroom at AKL

BCV, VWL, and BWV seem to be the most difficult. I am so thankful I own at BCV because it is my favorite and I milk that 11 month window everytime I want to stay there. LOL. I wasn't even excited when I added SSR but now with the treehouse villas I am very glad I did it. Now I will have BLT as well and I am set. Definitely make your home resort where you want to stay the most.
