What is Free Dining?

I keep seeing it mentioned on the board, but could somebody enlighten me? What is meant by the Free Dining I keep reading about?

for the past couple of years Disney has offered free dining to guests staying in a disney hotel during low season, this consists of 1 table service dinner, 1 counter servive meal and 1 snack per day per person, these can be used at most of the disney restaurants. You may have noticed threads stating first choice and virgin are now offering this - with conditions! ie virgin says you have to book by 6 november, must stay at least 7 nights in a wdw resort hotel and must prurchase their park tickets for the length of time you're there, you must also be staying during august or september next year.
