What is day by day booking?

Okay, I get the general concept; but I want the details of how this works. We are new to DVC, but have been "researching" for several years and hear of this often.

Do you literally reserve a room with a checkout one day later calling every day until you have completed your reservation? Is this always necessary?

Thanks for any guidance!!!!

I've never done this myself but my understanding is the same as yours. Every day you need to call based on your checkout date. You need to do this mostly for the hard to get locations like BCV at 7 mos. Once you make your last reservation make sure MS links your reservations so there is no moving involved.

Yes, that's the concept, but no, it is not necessary unless you are booking at a popular time in one of the smaller DVC resorts or are booking a hard to get reservation like concierge at AKV, Boardwalk or standard view at BWV, GVs at OKW during popular times, or anything at VWL during the holidays. In 11 years of membership, I have only booked day by day three times. Once was for a trip that included New Years Eve on the change of the Millennium and the other two times were to reserve my OKW GV at the 11 month window booking day by day.

So, I shouldn't need to do day-by-day for a 2BR at VWL in late May? This is my first family trip with kids and grandkids, and I'd be heartbroken if we didn't get the reservation. We'll be arriving the Wednesday after Memorial Day.

At the 11 month mark, no you shouldn't need to book day by day. Of course this assumes you own at VWL.

I'd book day by day then. It's easy to do and the word "heartbroken" indicates that you would forever kick yourself if you didn't get the reservation and then felt that you hadn't done everything possible to get it. It really shouldn't be necessary though at the 11 month mark.

They extend the original reservation, so there is no linking necessary.

I agree with Granny. If you own VWL and book at the 11 month mark, it is not at all necessary to book day by day for May.

If you do not own VWL and have to use the 7 month window, I would recommend day by day.

I do own at VWL. Thanks for the reassurances! I'm actually going to be on vacation elsewhere  when I'd need to be booking the day by day, and I'm afraid I'd forget to do it.
