What is considered a “good“ price for airfare?

trip dates are 6/26-7/7
We are coming from Portland Oregon
When should we buy air and what is a good price? There are 5 of us.
Hubby doesn’t want to take a red eye.

Well, from So Cal, it's between $350 and $500 round trip, depending on which airport I want to fly out of (per person) - if I fly out of ONT, it's close to $500 with one stop (SWA, two free bags). If I fly out of LAX, it's closer to $350 and that includes paying for one bag to be checked. So, I would say anything under $500 per person would be a good price.

For us, from CA, anything under $500/person is good. Our recent flights for July were right around $400/person. No red eye...Southwest flights. $182 going/$219 coming back.

We're traveling from PDX about the same time you are and I got our tickets a few weeks ago. They were just under $700 which was more than I had anticipated, but I watched prices and sure enough it dropped to $472 about a week later, so I called and Alaska credited the difference. We are taking the nonstop and I don't think it was that much more (and may have been less) than the flights that went to Seattle first, but we leave around 6 AM. That's fine with us as we're not far from the airport and prefer the nonstop.

Alaska is great about crediting cash and/or miles if you find a lower price - it always makes me feel better about booking in advance.

We paid $400 from PDX (Alaska non-stop) last year (late August).

I feel like I'm being toyed with after looking at ya'lls prices. Haha. We're -attempting- to fly out of MS and we're still looking at 400-500 round trip with 1 stop.

Check on google.com/flights/explorer - plug in your dates/cities to see what the lowest cost is for an period of a few months. Find the lowest cost days price and that would be my target price to "watch". Try to not wait longer than 6 weeks out to book.
