My gazebo, (made out of deckwood), is being chewed on by some animal. Orkin confirmed it is not termites, but they do not know what animal it is. What ever it is, it is climbing about 6 feet up to gnaw. The gazebo is near a wooded creek area. It is not touching a deck bridge I have Does anyone know what animal is doing this and how to stop it?:confused3

i have no idea but can it be a beaver? they cna climm high and collect wood for their dams.

Carpenter bees... my mom showed us yesterday that they are chewing right through the porch railings. We saw them yesterday circling and landing on the railings as well later in the evening.

My mom has a wooden birdhouse up in a tree, and hers was being eaten away also. One day, she finally spotted the culprit in the act: squirrels!

why don't you hang a birdfeeder/squirrel feeder in some trees away from the area of the chewing...fill it up with peanuts, that should distract the squirrels:)

we live in the country, lightly wooded by a pond. might be you have a porcupine residing in the brush. 'buddy' (as my kids have named him) climbs as high as 20 or 30 feet up trees and wooden structures, if he's lazy he knaws lower.

esp. if the wood is frequented by any bugs (residing or just visiting) porcupines are attracted cuz them bugs are a tasty treat.

Porcupine was my first thought too. That's what they do... gnaw on wood. Anybody nearby had dogs get quilled?

Squirrels. We caught them chewing away on our 6 foot wooden fence. I would never have thought until we confirmed it. I don't know how you would stop them though.

I do not think NE Indiana has Porcupines.

It is odd because this is the first time in 13 years that anything has gone after it.

nope but a friend's horse discovered one and thought it was a good idea to nudge it with it's nose:scared: think the final removed quill count was 14:scared1:
