what is bonnett creek resort like?

As far as I can tell, you don't really need Bonnet Creek points unless you have very particular needs. I own at a differnet resort, and got a 2BR for Easter Week there at the 10-month window, no problems.

If you need larger units, especially if you need 4BRs, then having points at BC may matter.

I own at Sea Gardens, in Ft. Lauderdale.

Christmas---I haven't tried it. But, in another six weeks, reservations there will be open. I'll be at Disney's Old Key West when the window opens, and might not think to check.

That's right. There is some inventory that is owned by the developer, as well as some that is turned over by owners for the developer to try to rent on their behalf.

This isn't the cheapest way to obtain a booking, but the terms will be a bit more like a regular hotel---you can cancel up to 3 days prior to arrival with no penalty, except for holiday dates.

We booked a 3 night stay (Jan2-5) using the resorts website - booked and paid for a 1 bedroom, then received a letter in the mail about a week before stating that we were booked in a 2 bedroom! I know we could have paid less to go through an owner, but we wanted to be able to change our plans if we needed to. We loved the place, and maybe next time will go through an owner.

I was there 12/25-12/30 in a 2BR. I booked through an owner on ebay on December 1st. There were quite a few listings for around that time.

ETA: BTW, the seller I bought from actually sold the week before Christmas (for the same 2BR) for $300.

I'm a VIP Gold Wyndham member (500+ points). We have purchased our points directly through Wyndham, and paid through the nose for the points & the yearly maintenance fees.
Make sure you do your homework on the fees, costs to determine if you can afford it. The maintenance fees can run you about $300-600/year, depending on the location and amount of points you own (unless your resale transaction says otherwise).

Don't make Bonnet Creek your home resort if possible. We just transferred 2 million points to Panama Beach because the fees and taxes at Bonnet Creek have increased so much. My aunt is in charge of the points, so she knows all the info much better than I do. She rents out points.
I love Bonnet Creek! We just got back again on Tuesday from a lovely stay. It's going to be so nice when it's finished. Sunken pirate ships with interactive play will be at the two new pools along with a pool bar, food service and lazy river. The new hotel will have two full serice restaurants.

And what is the risk if the person sells before we go? What safty net do we have with "renting" this way? None? Is it an all trust thing?

Anyone even considering buying Wyndham would be exceptionally well served by joining the Wyndham Owners Group (forums.atozed.com) and read everything you can find, starting with the Wyndham Primer. It answers these and many other questions.

Most importantly, take your time.

Cruises: no. This is only available to those with the PlusPartners attribute on their account. This comes from a retail purchase, or paying a very substantial enrollment fee. However, the consensus is the cruises (and almost all of the other PlusPartners options) are a bad use of points---you'd be better off paying cash. I'm not sure about the Adventures, but those require so many points that I've never looked into it.

No they are not all the same. However, the difference is supposed to be captured in point values, not necessarily resale values. You should not read too much into asking prices. Most of them are ridiculously unrelastic. As far as I can tell, the main determinant of resale value is the cost-per-point of MFs (lower is better). A secondary consideration is wheter the resort requires home-resort privilege to book peak weeks, but not many resorts have this issue. For the most part, a point is a point.

Sell or not, the owner of the account has full control over, and can cancel, any reservations right up until you check in. It's absolutely founded on trust---you shold expect a contract, and that provides some protection.

As to the OP, we stayed at WBC in August 08 - we had a 2BR unit and it was unbelievably great! My DH is asking to go back there! He never asks to go back to FL! (He just has to, because I do the vacation planning, and when it comes down to it, he loves it!)

The resort is beautiful, the units are spacious, clean, luxurious. We had planned a resort day - and for that day, we did enjoy the pools and the kiddie playgrounds. At the time I had 2 girls - 5 and 10. We played a round of mini golf, we played on the kiddie playgrounds, we swam in both pools, we hung out in the unit - it was a great time!

Brian mentions that the on-site dining leaves somthing to be desired, and that is true. On our resort day, we carried out at the closest Giordanos. Other days, we ate at the parks, or offsite before coming "home."

One thing that stood out to me - I found that there was plenty of parking available - we are rental car people (or drive your own car people, depending upon airfare - we're not that far away). We have stayed on WDW property before, and we found that even when we couldn't get a "good" spot near our WBC unit, it was still closer than when we couldn't get a "good" spot at Pop or at SOG..
