What is allowed?

I just have to chime in that I saw the pregnancy thread being referred to, and I saw that the Webmaster had closed it and I thought it was really odd since I too have seen and read other threads that were nearly identical...and those (like Dasani girls) were allowed to go on and on. (And I had no problem with that, this is the community board, they are part of our community!)

Can we start a forum for people who only have negative things to say too? Not saying anyone on this thread is like that, but there are people out there who are negative nellies.

How about one for the people who make up thier family & give them fake names:rotfl:

That is the thread.

I don't want to restart the topic without the permission from the mod - that is not my intention here - but I would like to understand why the topic would not be allowed on the Community board in general?

Nevermind how confused I was that it was closed because people were opening the thread, reading it and posting that they didn't want to open and read it? Is that totally confusing to anyone else? :confused3

You can read the first few lines of a thread without opening it. You take your cursor over the topic.

Add me to the list of confused. It seemed so random that thread would be locked, yet there has been a thread on the Duggars that has been going on for weeks now. It is discussing all manners of religion, and is still open. :confused3

I just found the closed thread in question. The OP of that thread was going to "chronicle" her pregnancy. :confused3 She also was asking for advice for morning sickness, etc. The expecting mothers thread would be a perfect place for all that. Hopefully she will jump in over there. I guess some folks just want to stand out from the crowd.

If we all decided to chronicle our pregnancies or events in our lives in our own threads, The Disboards would be clogged beyond belief. That is considered blogging. The Duggars thread, from what I can see, focuses on the TV show. Now if Mrs. Duggar came here and posted her own thread about herself, that would be blogging.

So, topics that are more "blog" type are not supposed to be on the community board? But I have read lots of threads that were personal journey threads?

I am really confused.
Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease go read the WebMaster's reason/s* for closing the thread; also please go read the DIS rules.

But I'm not getting the big deal - there IS a thread for moms-to-be and for anyone interested in keeping up. If board management says 'no, this thread is not appropriate', well, frankly, the board IS privately owned. They're EXTREMELY reasonable people and don't close threads on a mere whim.

*Not necessary, but I'm sure in this case the WM did state why the thread was being closed.

I just don't see how the closed thread in question is any different from the Dasani Girl or Baby Fauntelroy (SP?) threads. I don't have a problem with any of them, but don't understand why the one from yesterday was closed, but the others are allowed.

Just FTR - a brief search turned up no Flauntleroy/Fauntleroy threads, but "The Dasani Girl" thread? Anybody READ that, or are y'all just going by the title? It's a TRIP REPORT about Panama City. I didn't read past the first post, there could be blog-worthy pregnancy chronicling in there somewhere, but that's NOT why the thread was started!

THIS is why I am confused.

And I have PM'd the MOD and checked the rules - I just don't see the difference in the large thread referenced above and the thread that TK wanted to start. It was even started for the same reason - because she did not want to clog up her pre-trippie with the baby news.

This is the Community Board - a catch all - There are certainly lots of people posting lots of things that could be done on a blog - but we chose to do those things on the DIS - because we want to share our life with other DISers.

A trip report about Panama City is something I would blog about, too? :confused3

So we can start our own thread about a trip we have taken? That has nothing to do with anyone else?

If so, I can't really see the difference, but it would be different.

I remember a thread entitled "The Dasani Girl is having a baby" or something similar. As I mentioned before, I'm not into those type threads, so have to admit that I have NOT read it, but I can't see how something with a title like that is any different than the thread being discussed in the OP.

Personally, I think they should all be allowed, as this is the Community Board, but I think it is unfair that some are allowed and some aren't.

It almost feels like High School...the "cool kids" can do it, but no one else can.

A trip is NOT in ANY way the same as a pregnancy.

But, again: Moderators do NOT close threads on a whim. The DIS has rules. Period. Don't like the rules, start a blog or a whole new forum, or find a forum where personal chronicling is accepted/encouraged. The Mods are NOT going to reconsider, and to the best of my knowledge a thread has never been reopened. And threads referring to closed threads often get closed as well.

It's understood you don't agree with the decision. Got it. That's not going to change anything. Arguing, disputing, questioning - none of that is going to change the status of the thread, the opinion of Board Management, the actions of the Moderators/WebMasters.

I repeat (with emphasis added for posters who missed it the first time):

Are you a mod? :confused3

I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to ask for a clarification of the rules by an actual moderator. I'm curious myself.

I don't think that the thread "The Dasani Girl is having a baby", started out that way, I beleive she changed the title whenever she became preg., because I tend to remember that she had a trip report of sorts before ever even starting with the wedding stuff and them the baby stuff, she just kept building under the same thread, if I remember correctly, because I remember reading about a beloved dog that was killed and it tore up my nerves..hehe so it's been around for a while. :surfweb:

I agree with this, but couldn't that be done in a private message to a moderator or the webmaster.

I'm guessing it got close because the thread was set up as a blog (or "chronicles"). If the OP of that thread had just posted about her pregnancy and it had developed into one of the "clique" threads that doesn't die it never would have gotten shut down. But I'm not part of the "in crowd" - I'm not in a clique (thread) - so JMHO!
