What is a State Holiday?

I've never heard of a State Holiday...but Governor Romney announced Friday to be one in honor of President Reagan. So...is it like a State of Emergency where everything is closed and everyone can stay home?

If you work for the state, yes, you get to stay home!

It means all state offices and government will be closed and state employees will get the day off (except for the usual things that are staffed around the clock like hospitals, fire/rescue departments, etc)....

But if you don't get your paycheck from the state, though, it doesn't apply to you

I would think a State Holiday means that State offices are closed...(not the same as a state of emergency.)

Not everyone can stay home. I work for a state agency and I've gotta work on Friday.
