What is a really really warm coat?

I have the Squall Parka from Landsend too. Squall Parka

Mine is red. I look like a giant tomato, but I'm warm and the color is cheerful in the dreary winter. Actually, it's so warm that I keep it unzipped many days during the winter.

Do you really look giant in this coat....?....I am really leaning towards this coat for my travels but do not want to look like a "giant tomato"... !!!

Are you happy with the coat? I think the price is great!

I love that Lands End parka! Unfortunately, we never really need a coat like that here though.

The warmest coat I ever owned was a Hudson Bay reversible coat. It was wool on one side and the other was wind breaking/rain resistant with down in between. My parents bought it for me in Canada so I could wear it at college. The only time it ever got cold enough for me to wear it was the winter of 1977 when we had that blizzard blow through the midwest. I loved that coat but most of the time I sweated in it. I didn't even bother to bring it to Texas when we moved. Down here my coat is a microfleece sweatshirt

I found this brand in Norway in EPCOT, and Im hooked...love their stuff and very warm!

Another vote for Helly Hansen. They are amazing! Not bulky at all. It can get pretty frappin' cold here in Cleveland and my HH keeps warm when the wind chill is -15 but I don't sweat if I wear it and its 50 degrees out. Its got great ventilation to allow airflow if you are moving around. And after standing outside in 8 degree weather for 10 hours to see U2, I know it was well worth the money -- AND I got it for less than 1/2 price at TJ Maxx!!

I have a butt-ugly long Patagonia parka which is both lightweight and very warm. It was very, very expesive but I will be using it for my 6th winter.

I'm very happy with the coat. Unfortunately, I do look giant in it. Of course, I'm fairly large to begin with, so wrap a big red coat around me and, Viola! You have a giant tomato.

I actually think this coat might be too bulky for traveling. It's very thick and warm. When I go to the mall I try not to wear it. It's way too warm to wear inside, even unzipped, and it gets pretty heavy and cumbersome to carry if you take it off.

On the plus side, you wouldn't need a purse. It has all kinds of big pockets inside and out.

For everyday I have a shearling coat.....I bought it a furrier while they were putting up their "going out of business" sign. I wasn't in the market for one...I went in the store....my coat (they say) was priced at 2k...I got it for $650. and I love it.....Its soo soo very warm and its lightweight too.

I have a Columbia jacket that is actually 3 different jackets. It keeps me quite toasty warm when there is a negative windcill. I love my jacket which is rare because I don't like wearing coats. In college I used to wear my spring jacket in the middle of winter. My mother would yell at me for it, but I coudln't stand wearing my coat. But I actually have become much better at wearing my coat since getting my Columbia jacket.

I love love LLBean, but I had three coats in a row break their zippers, rip or otherwise die. However, they did give a full refund on each coat no questions.

Lonson Fog is the warmest coat I've ever owned. I have 2 of them. I do a lot of walking in Boston during the winter, and they keep me toasty warm!

I also tried LL Bean, Padagonea(sp) etc... nothing is like the London Fog though, worth the $$.
