What is a Mom to wear in the summer?

Oh boy. After reading this thread, I just spent wayyyyy too much money on cute skorts and sundresses on Athleta and Title 9 (the latter really is way too expensive, but there were a couple things I really couldn't resist). :rolleyes1

Thanks for the suggestions

lol!!! I have been online "window shopping" and those sites have a lot of cute stuff!

I make sure I have fabric that is quick drying! We are going this summer in August. I LOVE Athleta too! I also have items from Prana, Columbia, GGblue, and Kuhl.

I have this GGblue Skort - Love it:

I put my Athleta skorts to the test on my last trip to Disney as I was the lucky one to get completely drenched on The Kali River Rapids ride. I was dripping as I got off the ride but dry within an hour! It was about 80 deg that day. Even if you don't get wet, they are extremely comfortable. I've worn mine in some very hot and humid locales.

You are all making me feel much better about my overpurchasing

I'm not a mom, but I just bought a couple really cute sundresses at Old Navy for $15 and I'm so excited to wear them in Disney in June!

Before our September trip, I went to Academy and loaded up on the as Soffee brand athletic shorts that have built in underwear. Then I went to Walmart and bought the thin tank tops in the workout clothing section. I hate my arms, so I was a little uncomfortable having my arms show, but I never got hot, and my clothes stuck to me because of sweat, so those worked out great! :)

I LOVE lululemon Run pace setter skorts (trust me, I am NOT a runner lol) They are perfect for running after my toddler. They can be pricy, so I only have 1. I have found a couple really nice athletic skorts at Kohls over the last year too. I prefer skorts over shorts for some reason.

North Face has some nice shorts that don't look all athletic-y, but still dry super fast and are comfy!

Our first family WDW trip was in June, so I knew it would be hot. I normally wear cotton capris & t-shirts. For the WDW trip I wore the cotton capris with cotton tank tops. I would never wear just a tank top at home (I don't think it's a flattering look for me.) I didn't care when at WDW because I didn't want to pass out from the heat!

We plan to go back next June, so I have to decide whether to be brave with the tanks again or get moisture wicking shirts. I always wear tennis shoes to the parks. If my feet hurt, my whole body will hurt. Above all, be comfortable so you can enjoy the trip!

I've worn sundresses before but found that I was always trying to make sure they didn't blow up (not "blow up", but blow....up!) I've found something else that I love wearing in the parks.... "Whatever Skorts" by Athleta. The fabric is comfy and dries quickly. I also just ordered the "Wherever Skort" which is fabulous. It's the light feeling of a skirt, but the comfort of the built in shorts is much better than a sundress in my opinion. Leaving in less than 2 weeks for a quick trip and will be taking my skorts by Athleta.

This!! I love wearing Skorts to Disney. Cooler for summer, but no worries about flashing! I like American Apparel Skorts.

hehehe thanks for the suggestions, and the laugh :) I'm pretty fit but I am still a Mom so I need to start shopping to find some fashionable shorts! I usually live in sundresses in the summer!

I am a Mom and Gma. I am fit and wear what at the parks what i would wear at around here. I have worn sundress even on rides with a pair of work out shorts (spandex/lykra) under. Wear what you feel good in. Jcrew has some cute shorts in different colors that are both "park" friendly and stylish. Just because you are Disney you do not have to go all mom jeans and fanny packs.

I prefer khaki type fabric shorts for theme parks. I find denim shorts too thick and hot for the summer. :)

I like skorts or hiking style capris with walking sandals (Keen Whisper is my fave).

I am also starting to shop for my August trip. I had planned shorts, tanks etc. I did purchase a few long skirts at Target that I thought would be cute for at night. I may re think some things after everyone mentioned the athletic clothing!

I like these tanks because they have an actual bra built in but I wish they were longer in length:

So I will be on the hunt for some tanks that don't require a strapless bra but yet hides a regular one! One thing to think about that my friend mentioned is that since she is so fair she tends not to wear tanks even though it's so hot because she burns easily.

I wear dri fit type short sleeve shirts and then golf/running skorts. I am a huge fan of the izod outlet stores for these purchases. I am only early 30's but choose to dress more modestly, so the golf items provide that extra coverage I prefer. It also dries very quickly after getting wet from sweat or those summer rains!

I would buy from athleta but price-wise I do better at the outlet mall.

I am also a mom, but this is how I would dress if I wasn't. And yes, my mother's shorts are shorter than mine! But I can chase my preschooler while remaining comfortably covered.

I love athletic skorts as well. I bought a couple pair before my trip last August (thanks to a tip from the DIS) and found them to be really comfortable. I also wore just regular cotton/khaki type shorts, which are also fine, but I kinda like the expandable waistband on the skort... comes in handy with the DDP dining. :rotfl2:

This year, I'm looking to get a sundress or two since I'm adding a few signatures to my dining plans hopefully something that would be suitable for both park touring and eating.

I truly hope I never start worrying what as a "mom" I should wear. I'm a mother and wear exactly what I wore before becoming a mother and that is shorts or sundresses in the summer when its hot. Never got any strange stares and I don't think you will either ;) Good Luck!
