What is a Henna tattoo?

I know when someone gets a real tattoo, it is done with needles :scared1: and ink, not my thing.

In the shopping mall, on a recent visit with a friend, we passed a shop that had a sign for Henna Tattoos - what exactly is a henna tattoo and how is it put on? How long do they last? :hippie:

They do them in Morocco in the World Showcase.

Henna is a red dye, and it's done with paint. Length of time depends upon how well it was done, where it is and how often you get it wet/wash it.

Hennas are temporary and are put on with a brush and henna ink. They differ from those kiddie temporary stick on tattoos in that they are only one color (brownish red) and last longer. I had one last spring and it lasted about a month.

Henna is a plant-based type of dye....it is a reddish brown. Henna tatoos are painted on the body. It's big in Indian culture. Some women have their hands and feet painted with henna tatoos on their wedding day or for other special occasions. How long they last depends on how frequently you wash the tatooed area. They are not at all permanent. In college, my friends and I used to use henna to dye our hair red. It comes in a powder form and you mix it with water to make a sludgey paste.

I give myself Henna tattoos pretty regulary in the summer. On my hands, feet, wrists. It's just a brown paste that is put on with an applicator, it dries and falls off leaving a reddish/brown stain behind. the stain will last 2-4 weeks depending on where it is and the type of "friction" that the area gets. painless and fun. :)

Here is some useful information. ;)

I'm sure the OP is well aware of google but for whatever reason chose to ask her question here on the "friendliest" site. There is such a thing as an unexpressed thought, perhaps you should have applied that idea here.

OP, my kids always got the henna tattoos at the beach but they didn't last all that long, usually just a couple of days. I'm sure the surf and sand didn't help!

It was just meant in humor, that is why I used the little winky guy.

You've been here about 2 years now, and you still haven't figured out that humor is not allowed? :sad2: Shame on you.

:upsidedow

Oh, and so that I'm being useful in this thread, here's an example of the kind of design found on a lot of henna tattoos..

I think they're usually really pretty, I'm hoping to try it out next time I'm at Epcot. :goodvibes

Here's some pictures of my DD15 and I having henna tattoos done at a street fair in 2008. You can see how 3D they are - they are the texture of wet paste, kind of like mud. We had to be really careful with them until they were completely dry - took several hours. Then, when they were dry, the paste became the consisitancy of dry mud and just brushed right off, leaving the inked design behind.
