I heard of that song "Halla (holla? or Holler?) Back Girl" and have no idea what it means.

Guess this means I'm old and out of touch, LOL

Does it mean a girl who hollers back? Is is a eupemism for a tough girl with a big mouth?

I really have no idea, LOL.

I just found out recently myself......I think I'll let someone else explain in all it's eloquent entirety.... :lmao: :lmao:

hollaback girl
the definitions on urban dictionary are hilarious...but I won't link to it.

some of the "clean" definitions...

A female, usually a teenager or young adult, who, when insulted, will reply verbally. This is typically achieved by insulting the original insulter (otherwise known as 'hollering back', shortened in this case to 'hollaback').
This term was popularized by Gwen Stefani, a female vocalist who once performed lead vocals for a rather good band, No Doubt. Gwen has since gone solo, which people either love or hate.

In her song "Hollaback Girl", Gwen proclaims, when challenged by another girl (even though Gwen can hardly be described as a girl) through insults, that she "Ain't no hollaback girl". This is because Gwen is not a girl, but a woman, isn't going to stand for this, and is going to settle it physically.

An attractive girl but not the cream of the crop.

Word Gwen made up to drive us B-A-N-A-N-A-S trying to figure out what it means.

and

Contrary to popular belief, this was not invented by Gwen Stefani. She wrote the song in response to a music journalist who made some catty remarks about how Gwen was a cheerleader in high school.
'I heard that u were talking *beep* and you didn't think that i would hear it'...
A hollaback girl is one of the backup, inferior cheerleaders. She was not one of those, but the leader.
'we both wanna be the winner but there can only be one'
Gwen Stefani was merely saying that yes, she was a cheerleader, but she was a dang good one!

and this is what i thought it always was
A girl/woman who cannot refuse the invitation of a "booty call".

(can you say booty call on the Dis?)

Not sure what it means, but I saw Gwen Stefani sing it on Ellen Degeneres's show and thought I'd buy the CD. Well, when I went to turn it on in the car my DD11 said, "Mom, you can't play that. It has the s word on it like 36 times." And I said, "No way. She says "ship." I saw her sing it on TV."
And my DD got the CD case with the song lyrics and sure enough--Ooops. So when I play the song we all yell really loudly "The STUFF is bananas..."
I can't keep up... :lmao:

I wonder if Gwen did as much research as Stinkerbelle just did, lol

:teeth:

slow day at work I tell ya.

and urban dictionary cracks me up.

I'm telling ya...the old snarky #10 did it.

So I was on the right track with my guess :)

I never checked out the Urban Dictionary, its sounds like a hoot!

It's a girl who makes herself available for casual affairs with men. The boy contacts her via pager or the like (i.e. he "hollas" at her) to schedule a booty call and she calls him back to accept and make arrangement (she "hollas back").

In the classic double standard, the girl is considered pathetic, cheap, and weak. The guy, of course, doesn't seem to be censured at all.
