What Is A Guaranteed Cabin?

What is a GTY cabin? We just booked our 1st cruise w/ DU and since we requested connecting staterooms, we have cabins already assigned to us = cat.8 #6024 & 6026.....is there a chance we coould get better connecting cabins when we pay the cruise off?

Do you have a GTY booked? GTY = guarantee, which means you don't get a room number assigned when you book the cruise.

If you pick a inside guarantee, then you will get an inside cabin or higher. If you pick a oceanview guarantee, then you will get an oceanview cabin or higher category...etc.

Some people like the possiblity of getting an upgrade, but you could be anywhere on the ship. If you like a certain location (like mid ship) than a gty isn't probably what you would want, b/c you could be way off on one end of the ship.

GTY rooms are cheaper than choosing your room. So make sure you don't think- wow I'm getting a great deal, when the only reason its cheaper is because its a gty.

A guarantee cabin means that DCL will not assign you to a cat. less than whatever the guarantee is for. For example, if you have a cat 9 gty, you will not be placed in anything less than a cat 9 cabin. It also means that you may be upgraded to a better catagory. At least you know that you won't be less than what you have a guarantee for.

As others have said, a Guarantee (or GTY) stateroom guarantees category (or better) but not location.

GTY staterooms are not discounted. Those paying for a GTY room pay the same amount as those with with stateroom assignments. They often pay higher prices, as the ship fills and the pricing tier changes. The only way to realize any increase in value is to pay for a GTY stateroom and hope that you get an upgrade.

Please be aware that guarantee staterooms can be anywhere on the ship that the particular category is found.
