What is a good age for the Pirate's Cruise?

My DS will be 4 and 1/2.....will he be too young for the Pirate's cruise? How many kids are allowed on? How many cast members are present? Do they have the kids wear life jackets?

I hope not because I just booked one for my son (who will just be 4) this summer. Of course his two older sisters, (who will be 7 and 5) are going with him. We were at the GF last year and the kids looked to be anywhere from 4-8 years old.

My DD4 and DS7 and going in 3 weeks. They do make them wear life vest - they have all sizes available so they will fit properly. and I know there are at least 2 cast members along - if not 3.

My son has been on the cruise twice and loved it. He was 6 and 8 when he went. There were alot of 4-5-6 year old kids. I believe there are 20 on the cruise. And all were excited to go.

They do wear life jackets and red bandanas. There was a Captain and a mate on the cruise.

As a parent, the best part is watching them come back to shore. I so glad Ryan did the cruise.

thanks everyone! Another question...Is it mostly boys or do many girls attend? I do hope some girls will be there as my DS has 2, 5 year old cousins (girls) who could hang out with him. It sounds so cute!

I booked both dds along with ds on the cruise. I saw both girls and boys going on it. It's funny I didn't think twice booking the girls on the pirate cruise but didn't book ds on WOnderland tea party. Of course my DH thinks ds goes to too many "princess' things already since he has two sisters. But actually ds likes the princesses too. Of course he was only three last year and liked everything. I think he'll still like them this year too the only time he'll stop is when he gets to grade school and other kids tell him boys aren't supposed to want to go to princess events. Oh well, at least he's little now.

Your son will probably have a great time.

My son went on it last June at 3 1/2 & had a wonderful time.
He is going again this June at 4 1/2 & he is so excited to be going again.

Yes, there are life jackets from XXS--to XL in Kid sizes.

Petula, I do worry about the kid but not THAT much! Sorry about the confusion, I knew what I meant but apparently I didn't get my entire point across! LOL! There is just something unnerving about sending your little boy off on a boat with strangers....just want to make sure it's safe

Well, I knew what the OP meant, but had to laugh when the next poster replied "I hope not because my son I just booked one for my son who will be 4 this summer...." I first thought the I hope not was in response to the "Will they wear life jackets?" question, but then realized it was to the "Is he too young? question...LOL!!

Oh I thought of one more question.....Do they want the parents to stick around the GF while the kids are away? Would we be able to go to the MK on our own for a while? Just wondering what the protocol is.............

They give you a pager so you can roam where you wish, just be back when the kids return.

Our three kids (DS9,4, DD6) did the Pirate Cruise last October. Ages do vary some as young as 4 (like my younger son--though some 'seemed' younger), and some older than my older son (9 y/o). They do pair you up with a buddy before you board the "pirate ship" (actually a pontoon boat), and explain the rules of behavior while on board. My two sons stayed together, while my daughter quickly found a buddy with another little girl. There were two older ladies who would be their guides. Also, when you check-in, each child puts on a lifevest (sizes range from kids XXS-XL), and each is given a pirate bandana with their name on it to wear. Lunch consists of a p&b sandwich, and they get to eat gummies and some other small snacks. As far as leaving the GF---we just walked around the hotel a little while, and sat by the marina and had breakfast/lunch and just enjoyed the down time (you can only imagine w/3 kids). There really isn't that much time to venture far from the marina, and be back in time when the boat returns. When they returned they had little goodies and other "treasures" from their adventure. The kids had an amazing time!! Highly recommended.
