What is a fridge swap?

I'm reading through the forums and see something about POP fridge swap. I'm a noobie and I think I have an idea, but just not 100% sure I understand what it is.

Explanation or a link to one would be nice.

rather than renting a mini fridge at the resort for 10+ dollars/night and your name and dates to the list if it is available for you dates of travel to Pop Century and you will be using the fridge that is in that thread.

Edit: Pop Century has pretty much all of the fridge swaps but I did see a listing for ASMo. Check out the Budget Board that is where the all of the fridge swaps are posted.

Ok, so does this mean a someone is bringing their own fridge and leaving it there for other people that post in here that are interested to use. Or is someone renting a fridge from the resort and just keeping it rented for others to use. I guess that's what I didn't understand.

The frig swaps *usually* work this way:

Someone begins a swap for a particular resort. Because the frigs are so large, they cannor be transported between resorts. So if you're staying at ASMu, ASMo or POP, you need to join a swap that is specific to your resort.

The organizer is almost always the first person on the swap list. They will determine what kind of frig and the cost of the frig. Some may buy a frig and then donate it to the swap. Others might collect a small fee.

Rules are set up to make sure that the frig is transferred from one DISer to another in as efficient a manner as is possible. It is the responsibility of each swapper to make sure that the frig is clean and properly packaged prior to their departure.

Since the swaps are not run by the DIS, the how's and what's are set up by the organizers. You would need to PM the organizer of the swaps you're interested in to get details and specific answers to your questions.
