What is a dole whip really?

I used to think I knew what a dole whip was at Disney but now I'm not really sure. So when people say they love dole whips, is there any way to know what they are actually referring to? In a vlog I watched recently, the vlogger was going on and on about how much he loves dole whips and then proceeded to just order vanilla soft serve with a little bit of pineapple juice. What??? I can make that at my house! Somebody help me out here.

Dole whip is a non dairy frozen dessert available in multiple flavors (vanilla, pineapple, raspberry, lime, others) that Disney buys from Dole and sells. It can be ordered standalone, with pineapple juice, with rum, or other varieties.

I get the pineapple or pineapple-raspberry softserve in a dish with pineapple juice. I've never found that anywhere else outside of Disney. It's delicious!

You are right. That’s just what it is. But I can also make espresso at my house but for some reason it tastes 10 times better in Venice. 😝.
But I’m with you. It’s no biggie. Now the churros on the other hand… jk 😂

There are so many variations of the Dole Whip at Disney. I get the pineapple flavored soft-serve. No pineapple juice. When it has the juice, it is a Dole Whip Float, not just a Dole Whip. Occasionally I'll get the version with rum.

Dole Whip mix, in several flavor, is available for purchase online. If you have a soft-serve machine, you can have it anytime you want. You can find the list of ingredients on Dole’s web site.

You can buy the Dole Whip mix here on Amazon. You can do it in a regular ice cream machine also (that's what we do), but you need to tweak the instructions a bit to get it to taste just right.

Dole Whip is a nondairy frozen treat. You can get it in various flavors, and if you add the juice, it's a float.

Umm, I can report that if you're just looking for the pineapple Dole Whip, the Dark Side now offers it...for a $1 cheaper (at least in late May 2021).

Until last month I wondered what all the Dole Whip fuss was about. Now I no longer wonder. Some things are even better than their advance publicity--and Dole Whip is one of them!

Some restraunts are starting to carry a soft serve machine with "Dole whips" they are nothing like the ones at Disney.
I really like the Peter pan ones over in fantasyland they are keylime.

A little drive-in place in my town sells them and it's the closest thing I've had to it, but it's not spot-on. It's kinda like having a coke at McDonald's (if anyone knows what I mean). It's just better at Disney.

I agree, most of the imitation Dole Whip recipes you can find online are nothing like the real thing. It isn't made by whirling a bunch of pineapples, oranges or whatever in a blender. It is also non-dairy so any of the imitation recipes that use ice cream are also not it.

We had the pineapple Dole Whip at the Polynesian during our last trip. Thought it was just OK and really nothing special. I think the atmosphere of being at Disney makes it seem like something more then it really is.

Dole whip is (from the web site):

The St. Louis Zoo offers both pineapple and raspberry dole whip, and I have to get one every time! I was so excited when I saw they were serving it. Since it's free to get into the zoo I have gone before JUST for the dole whip, haha. :)

Sweet Frog is a froyo chain and they sell actual Dole Whip - usually always have pineapple and sometimes other flavors. They even do a float w/pineapple juice like WDW.
