What is a "Ding"?

I assume this has something to do with discount airfare ... how does one go about getting a "Ding"? I could sure use a Ding or 2 for my September trip as the thought of driving has be a bit leery.

Ding! is a discount that Southwest offers only to people who have downloaded special software on their computer.

I just got a new computer at work and it does not yet have speakers. I downloaded DING yesterday. When SWA sends me a DING, how long do I generally have to look at it or respond before it is gone???

I think (Not at all an expert so, please help if this is not correct) that most Dings! are good until the end of that day. I do not get the Ding! sound but there will be an icon in your system tray (where the clock is-sorry if you know that already). The icon looks like a striped backslash. When there is a Ding!, it gets a little envelope signal on top of it. When that happens, just double-click it and you will see the details/expiration.

Actually, many of the Dings! that arrive in the morning expire in the early afternoon. Some of the afternoon Dings! can expire around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. And some can last until the end of the day.

Some Dings! are only available for 3-4 hours, while others can be available for up to 12 hours. If you can't hear the sound, just keep an eye on that system tray for the Southwest Airlines tail with the envelope... that's when you have a new Ding!

Hey thanks for the hints - I would not have known to look in the accessory bar at the bottom of my screen - I had 2 "Dings" - I always thought it just didn't work - thanks for the heads up!
