What is 1 unpopular opinion on Travel you have?

Either way, I just want to pick my seat ahead of time and not have to ask 10 people around me "Are you B12...wait, I'm B14...hey buddy, B30 is back there..."

And see that stuff isn't even an issue anytime I fly. It's like a milisecond of time really any time people ask.

I guess it's really about perspective though because to me picking my seat ahead of time gains me........nothing when I'm actually at the airport. I have a specific seat, great. Now I get to still try to get at the front of the pack so I can get in my seat and make sure I have overhead bin space.

Other the other hand SWA with open seating comes with anxiety about sitting next to who you want to sit next to and overhead bin space but at least I have a specified spot to line up in at the gate. There hasn't been a crowding at the gate like there was with Delta IME.

I guess for me neither is perfect and while I do vastly prefer SWA it's more of a 'pick your poison' type thing IMO when it comes to how they do it and how other airlines do it.

You're right...neither is perfect.

When I fly, it's either a "feast or famine" situation with my luggage. Often, I just have too much to fit in overhead so I have no choice but to check my bags. In those cases if I'm checking a bag anyway, I put pretty much everything in there. So I walk on the plane with just my cell phone and a pair of earbuds in my pocket, no bags in my hands...at all. Or the other possibility is that I have very little to bring and it'll fit in a backpack. In those cases, even if the overhead is full, I make sure my bag is small enough to fit under the seat in front of me. So it's pretty rare I use overhead space, therefore I don't even worry about that. I just like to get on the plane, grab my seat and have "me time". OK...truth be told me time is usually with my eyes shut and hopefully not snoring... Pretty common that I'll fall asleep before we even taxi. I'll wake up simply from the motion of takeoff, but then usually fall back asleep before we hit 10,000 feet.

Red-eyes excluded, I’m never able to sleep through flights because of frequent interruptions from the attendants. It seems like it would be common sense NOT to wake a sleeping passenger, but I guess not? I’ve considered trying to tell them at boarding that I don’t wish to be disturbed, but that seems so .

I've personally not seen where flight attendants wake people up for snack and drink service. They just pass over them.

It's funny actually that you mention about you getting woken up because my mother-in-law one time got in a huff because she was asleep and they didn't wake her up. For her it was like "the nerve of them not waking me up". They were still able to safely get her a drink and snack though when she woke up so no harm no foul.

No, I just staple a "Do Not Disturb" sign to my forehead. Seriously no, it usually isn't an issue. My belt is buckled and it's usually pretty easy to see it. With the snack/beverage cart, I'm always in a window seat so I'm furthest away. They never really bug me to ask if I want anything...though occasionally I'll hear them talking to the person next to me. Usually doesn't bother me though.

I was in a window seat trying to sleep. The woman in the aisle (middle was empty) poked me to see if I wanted a beverage. I took off my eye mask and looked at her confusedly. Put it back on and ten minutes later she poked me AGAIN to see if I wanted peanuts. Lady, I'm clearly trying to sleep! And, yes, she woke me both times. I was very cranky.

I wouldn’t be able to get a flight attendant to pass me over if my life depended on it, no matter how hard I lie against the window emanating unconsciousness. If my husband’s awake he’ll run interference, but if we’re both trying to sleep, forget it.

Can you just say to them at the beginning, "Don't worry about waking me if I'm sleeping", that way they know, and are of the hook, so to speak? They probably don't know what to do because there will be people mad they missed their drink or whatever, and then maybe they have to get them one (idk), then everyone else wants one, lol.

It is absolutely 110% worth it to me to pay to check a bag (since I would wait for a bag with Southwest anyway), and board at the end when the craziness is over. My sanity is worth that.

I have 2 teenage boys. I love taking them on trips separately. Traveling with one other person is so much easier then traveling with 3 other people. Our family trips are fun, but it's so much more relaxing when it's just me and one of my kids or me and my husband. I'm lucky to have a husband that doesn't mind me taking a trip without him.

Totally. We pretty much always board near-to-last no matter what our boarding-group assignment is. Not because we're late - we'll sit at the gate and watch the line dissipate before we step up. We rarely ever care where we sit and we never carry luggage on. In the event when we want specific seats we pay for pre-assignment or a category upgrade. (Gotta say I resent paying for bags though . I would LOVE to be able to fly Southwest but alas, they don't fly to Canada.)

I love Southwest Airlines.
I hate the Disney Dining Plan.
If I have to cook, unpack, or do legitimate laundry on vacation, it's not a vacation.
There is nothing cheap about a beach vacation.

We preferred a condo at Windsor Palms to a Disney resort (that surprised me).

The thing is if you are "old time Seattle," Red Robin is local. When we were in college at the University of Washington, DH and I used to eat at the original one which was just across University Bridge, the one that started out as a tavern frequently. They tore it down a few years ago now, put up apartments I think.

Not that there aren't newer local places worth trying. But if you don't know Red Robin history it seems more annoying.

I'm glad you posted this. I actually found myself tilting my head to the side, scrunching my nose and looking puzzled thinking "Red Robin IS local!" because I remember going to the first one. I think OP means they don't want "chain" restaurants.

My unpopular travel opinion would be that sometimes I actually enjoy checking out chain restaurants that I've seen advertised but don't have at home. At home, my favorites are definitely local places. I'm probably MORE likely to hit a chain restaurant on vacation than at home.

Frankly, I don't worry about it. Like a lot of people, I burn the candle at both ends, so anytime I can grab a nap, I'm game. I hope I don't snore on the plane, but if I do...sorry.

I literally can't sleep in an upright position anywhere. Apparently it's some vestige of prehistoric man's survival mechanism from when we used to sleep in trees. My arms literally jerk me awake the second I doze off even semi upright. I read an article about it and finally understood what was happening. It's maddening, to be honest.
