What is 1 unpopular opinion on Travel you have?

Cruise vacations are expensive. Priced out a RC cruise for four in July 2017 and it was equivilent to a WDW vacay. Where are all the cheap cruises I keep hearing about?
How are you doing Disney so cheaply? We can get a balcony cabin on practically any 7-day RCCL itinerary for less than $1,000/person. Add airfare and we’re at about $3,000 for 7 days. Add another $1,000 for excursions and incidentals and thst’s $4,000. I don’t think I could do WDW with park passes and OOP meals for that.

Plenty of amazing and beautiful places to see right here in the states and DH doesn’t have to leave his gun at home. With the way the world is going we feel much safer knowing he has it on him, and wouldn’t hesitate to use it if our lives were in danger, whether from animal or human either one.

The history to be found outside our shores is simply breathtaking. Please face your fears and see the world - I do not think you will regret it.
I was due to go out of the country when Reagan/Libya were bombing things in 1986 - all the other high schools pulled out of the trip that spring - parents at my high school said we should be allowed to go to Europe as planned. We went. I was on vacation on 9/11 and got stuck. Oh well. Stuff can always happen. But so can a natural disaster here. And truthfully I am more concerned about being shot in the US than I am in Spain or Italy (where I am heading in September).
I like my Ruger, (its purple), but I do not carry and am not attached to it.

Vice versa but we value life experiences and are willing to take the chance.

Life is way too short to live in such fear of a very unlike event

Meh, plenty of people expressed no desire to come to the US in this thread & nobody called them out on it. They have their reasons & apparently, that’s enough. So, it should be in this case. Plus, the person you quoted has already been to Canada on multiple occasions.

I enjoy flying.

Me too.

I love a several hour block in which i can choose the movie and not care what anyone else thinks, or read or color without feeling like I should be doing something more productive.

The better question is WHEN are the cheap cruises---not likely in July---and the best price for July was probably on the week the cruise became available for booking over a year prior.

I know this is off topic, but where do you recommend staying?

For those not interested in this question, that just want to read about the topic, don't read.

For Disneyland? Disneyland hotel or Grand Californian if you can afford em. Not a fan of Paradise Pier. If not I prefer to stay in one of the bare bones places across the street or down the street. Most of the hotels across the street or down the street are not worth significantly more than any other. Rooms are small as are the pools and amenities. But most offer a clean room at a good price. But if all things are equal as to price, I prefer the Best Western Park Place Inn. It's literally right across the street. Best Western Anaheim is good too. I've had good visits at the Tropicana as well. The Candy Cane Inn is really nice too for that price range and they do have a shuttle. It's also a cute place. But that is about as far as I would want to walk at the end of the day. The other direction, Howard Johnson's is about as far as I want to walk. If you need rooms for 5, Fairfield inn is good. And Mimi's is down that direction. Again it's fine at the beginning of the day. But at the end of day 3 when legs are tired, I wouldn't want to be walking any further. You can find better quality hotels further away and if you want a better hotel than these but can't afford Disney's prices, sadly, you'll be forced to go to the better hotels further away. And you can find about the same quality hotels a bit cheaper further away. But that comes at a price. You're stuck with shuttles or worse, Driving. It is so convenient to be able to walk across the street and for me, I like the convenience. I have not stayed in any of the newer ones a bit down the street yet. But I hear good things about em. I will make it a point to do so if the price is right. At WDW you've seen the stroller parking lots. Well with your hotel a 5 minute walk away, you'll probably still want your stroller with a young one. But you won't have to load the carry thing in the bottom of it with every single thing including the kitchen sink!!!
For equal money, The ones across the street that would be my last choices are probably the Del Sol, Park Vue and Camelot. But even the Del Sol wasn't too bad the couple of times it came in very nice on price. A bit old and run down. But the room was well cleaned.
Some things to be wary of. Any hotel that advertises Next to convention center/Disney. What are the odds that it's close to the convention center, but that the convention center is between you and Disney? Fairly high actually. Also be wary of right next to Disney. That may mean next to the property but not near the gate itself.

Even where they have door locks and only one person can go in at a time, they have separate male and female restrooms. There was a huge line for the female one. After I got done in the male one I suggested they could use he male one. It had one toilet only, a sink, and a locking door. But all the women in line looked at me like I just told them to do a strip tease in public.
I've used the single stall locking door "mens" room many times. Ladies in line looked at me like I was nuts. I had to go, and many times the men's room was cleaner.

I think you missed my point.

Paris doesn't have a monopoly on foul-smelling subway stations. Philly is especially bad.

With Paris it's not JUST the metro that smells like that, it's the WHOLE city. The last time I was there for less than 48 hours and 12 were spent in Disneyland Paris, probably the cleanest place in the city. The first night it wasn't bad as it was pouring with rain, giving Paris a much needed shower. Montreal's metro stations are very clean, at least they were the last time I was there as were everyone I have ever been to in Japan.

Re: flying. If you mean being up in the air...I love it.....If you mean all the crap surrounding the action which was previously mentioned....I loathe it. What I DON'T worry about is crashing.

Mine is that I'd prefer to have and use a car no matter where we are. I include WDW in that. I feel more free when we use a car.

I also hate flying.

I've been to Montreal's subways and they reek just as bad as Paris, NYC, Toronto.

I don’t have any travel fears to face. I am not at all afraid to travel internationally, I just have no desire to. There is a difference there. I know I would not enjoy the long plane ride, that’s the biggest thing. Maybe it’s because we’re older, I don’t know. We just enjoy going back to favorite places, and exploring our own country. Lots of states we haven’t seen yet. Everyone is different, and enjoys different ways of travel.

I used to love flying. To me it was exciting, the start of an adventure and out of my routine. I loved the time to read or just relax and look out the window. 9/11 coincided with us becoming parents—roughly. It hasn’t been nearly as enjoyable since and I think both of those things played a part. As my kids get older it gets easier, but still not as carefree as it once was.

That’s why I wound up booking WDW. I started looking at cruises. Then I started looking at Disney cruises. Then I realized Disney cruises would just cause me to have WDW envy for roughly the same price.

The entire area around Pittsburgh lives up to it's name, the pits. Visited twice and was completely unimpressed both times. We do have a son now as where we were staying was scary so we didn't venture out at night-other to get Tums and anti nausea meds for my wife. :)

Try flying into NYC from the orient you think you are in a third world airport. We went hiking this past winter and skiing near the Pa WV border and spent a few days at the Drury in Pittsburgh. The Maple Leafs were playing the Pens. We walked across 5 of the bridges and all over the city and had a very nice time. Found the people a bit clannish and unsophisticated but other than thatenjoyed our time there.

Ouch! Trying not to feel offended. LOL

I will never, ever, ever fly Southwest.
I don't even go to movie theaters anymore where I can't pick my seat in advance.
