We chose our children's name based on historical figures. My husband was/is very adament that our children names are based on someone who they can read about in history books and who we think had a positive influence on the country. (some of you may disagree with our first choice, but we are 2nd amendment folks). My husband would come up with names, and I would veto or agree. He came up with some doozies (Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, Betsy Ross, Annie Oakley.......oy)
1st son is Samuel Colt. Samuel Colt invented the modern rifle back in the 1860's I believe. You know, Colt firearms? Yeah, at the time Sam was born, DH was a firearm's training specialist and taught cops and civilians how to shoot correctly and safely. Plus I really liked the name Sam. A solid, good name, and it was also Biblical.
2nd son is Joshua Chamberlain. Joshua Chamberlain was a General in the Civil War for the Union (he went on to be the governor of Maine for 4 terms). He helped command the battle of Gettysburg and turn things back around and eventually helped secure the Union's victory. (Jeff Daniels played him in the movie Gettysburg if ya saw it). I also liked the name Joshua for it's Biblical meaning.
3rd baby will either be:
Nathan Hale- "I regret that I have one life to give for my country." revolutionary war era. And I like the nickname Nate.
Or
I love this
Molly Pitcher- actually her name will be Molly Grace Pitcher (and our last name). I had to argue that one, that I wanted my grandmother's middle name (Grace) in there too. Molly Pitcher was an awesome lady. Her husband manned a cannon in the Revolutionary War, and she brought "pitchers" (get it?) of water to him and the other soldiers. Her husband was wounded so what did she do- she got right in there and started manning the cannon herself! George Washington gave her a medal of honor and named her an honory officer of the Army. What a woman!
In another month I will know if we have a Nathan or a Molly!
