What in the world is wrong with "Life Is Good" deliveries?

I'm admittedly spoiled by Amazon Prime, but what on earth is going on with "Life is Good?"

I'm okay with 7 day delivery from one point on the East coast to another, but they are really messed up.

First I ordered a teeshirt with a discount coupon. Originally, the delivery was supposed to be in about 5 days (from NH to Miami). But then the shirt wasn't even picked up until the 4th day. Then it sat for two days. Then it took about an hour drive to a UPS location. Then it took a quick 3-day drive to Orlando. And sat. Then to Miami, and sat. Finally, on day 13-14, it was delivered. (The delay was NOT the big winter storm. The package was in Orlando before that weather hit the NE.)

Naturally, it didn't fit, even though other Life Is Good shirts the same size fit perfectly.

So I sent it back. No word on that yet. I'll wait another couple of weeks and just dispute it on my credit card.

I ordered the same shirt in a different size, and this is the actual tracking info.

I ordered it on 2/19 and the original expedited arrival email said delivery by 2/23.

I'm canceling tomorrow. Don't need the shirt this bad, LOL. And apparently they don't need customers either.

It looks like you ordered on a Friday night and the package was mailed out on Monday night- I would expect anything ordered on a Friday night to not be mailed until Monday. The rest of this looks like a problem with UPS and not Life Is Good. And maybe USPS as well? I'm a little confused, since it looks like it went from UPS to USPS and back to UPS? Is that common?

Have you called Life Is Good about the refund? I've always found them pleasant to deal with as far as customer service.

I'm confused. Is this a shipping problem or a vendor problem? Vendors don't control shipping once it leaves their dock.

The tracking appears like they're using UPS Mail Innovations which is a combination UPS/USPS product. I personally am not a fan of those (FedEx has a similar option called Smartpost) because it always delays packages a couple days in the handoff between the companies.

Most smaller companies take a few days from 'package sent' to 'package actually sent'. What they are doing is purchasing the postage, then once they have enough orders (or on specific days, depending on the company), they ship all their packages at once. If you are selling 10 items every 2 or 3 days, you don't go to the post office/UPS store every day; you combine the packages and make one trip. If you've ever bought an item off of Etsy or Ebay, this is how it goes....it is known.

The shipping back and forth....that's not on the company. You can smack UPS/USPS for that mess. Sometimes packages, especially something small like just a shirt (which I am assuming didn't come in a big box...maybe just a mailer?) gets pushed off the cart, falls behind a big box, whatever. Or maybe USPS was supposed to accept the packages, but that day said "hey, we are too far behind, we can't accept anything today"...or UPS went "you are getting this package today....oh, never mind, we have only one package to hand over today....we'll wait until Friday when we have 15 more..."

Sorry, your only beef with the company can be the size doesn't work for you....

But they select their shipper...right?

IMHO, they are responsible for delivering the purchase to me. If they choose a substandard shipper, they are responsible for their cheap business decision.

Ebay does have a "handling time" that is calculated into expected delivery date and they hold sellers to it. For Top Rated you have to do 1 business day handling to get a discount. This can still leave an item that is purchaed on Friday not going out until Monday. This only applies to top rated sellers though and you can put up to 10 business days for handling time on your ebay listing IIRC.

This is what my ebay dashboard looks like right now. Note late shipment rate has to be lower than 3% over a rolling 12 month period to qualify as Top Rated.

Sort of. They do give you options at checkout:

To be frank, shipping over the past year has been very hit or miss. The last month has been relatively reliable for me but there are times in the recent past where I've had 2 shipments go out the same method on the same day and had drastically different results. USPS has been the worst of the carriers but I've also seen weird stuff with UPS/FedEx at times. It kind of is what it is and all sellers can do is ask for patience.

I double checked the tracking and the package is supposedly back in Miami now and due for delivery tomorrow. It apparently really was here in Miami last week and went to Orlando and then back.

I'm giving it tomorrow and I'll see what happens.

All the shipping companies do things that don't make sense, then blame weather anywhere in the country for the delay. DH ordered a package via 2 day shipping. It finally arrived Friday 9 days, after it was shipped. Businesses are really at their mercy, so we've learned to be patient & only expect Amazon packages to arrive on time. Amazon is obviously given priority.

Amazon is downright scary here in Miami. I guess we have a big distribution facility here, but I can order stock items like KN95 masks at 10 PM and get them less than 12 hours later.

One of these days I'm going to order something at 6 AM and see if I get it same-day.

There's a big warehouse near Miami Gardens. We've received a couple of same day packages from there.

UPS is just awful lately. We just changed phone carriers and bought new cell phones with 2-day air shipping. Those took a full week to get to us, which unfortunately meant my daughter went back to school before her new phone had arrived (which I know is partly my bad for cutting it so close... but still, two-day shipping doesn't usually take a week!). So then I shipped DD's phone and a couple of things she'd forgotten to her. Again, two-day shipping. This time it is "only" supposed to take 6 days, based on the current scheduled delivery date, but tracking doesn't show any updates since it was scanned in Ohio on Wednesday so I seriously doubt she'll have it in California tomorrow. Which of course has me kicking myself because if I wanted to deal with that kind of delay, I could have shipped Priority Mail with the post office and saved myself some cash.

Thank you for explaining that! I was confused about the switch off between UPS and USPS.

OP, still sounds like the problem is with the shipping company and not Life Is Good.

As a selfish aside- money saved on shipping means more money for for the Life Is Good Kids Foundation, which trains Playmakers and provides resources and funding for organizations working with children facing trauma and other adverse childhood events. I HIGHLY recommend anyone working with young children explore the Playmakers training. I did it years ago, before the current format, when there was a specific training course for my profession, and it was incredible.
