What I'm Focussed On - Water

When I was young and was boating the mid-coast of Maine, these were called "ink bottles." Ours had wood slats on all three sides and were usually painted black and white. This was in the era before everything was modernized. There were also other channel markers including anchored logs painted red or black called spars. The 'nuns' [red with cone-shaped tops] and 'cans' [black with squared-off tops] were relatively tall and smooth. There were also buoys - some with gongs [bells] of various numbers and tones, and some with a flashing light on top. All these marine navigational devices were attended to by the Coast Guard in a ship called a 'buoy tender'. It was quite a sight to see them haul out one of the rusty, barnacle encrusted buoys and replace it with a recently refurbished one.
