Hi, you may remember me from a previous post where I asked about traveling to WDW with a friend who has some disabilities. To those of you who took the time to answer, thank you again, your advice and information have been very helpful.
So on to my next concern.....we will be staying at the Grand Floridian Villas. I've stayed there before and know that there is a CM at the check in desk from about 8a.m. until sometime in the evening.
I'm worried, thinking about what if, God forbid, I would have to call 911 if something happened to my friend. For those of you who didn't see my other post, she has cardiac problems, is a diabetic, and sometimes has fainted/passed out due to a TIA or inner ear problems which make her dizzy. I know I wouldn't be the first person to have to call 911 from the Villas, but my concern is that you can't gain access to the Villa buildings without a MB or key card. If there is no staff in the lobby (if it is after hours) can EMS get in? I'm sure they can but just need to be reassured.

Also, would I just call 911 and handle it on my own or is there some way to notify a Disney cast member who could also be of assistance? I only ask this because as I mentioned before, the GF Villas are not like the hotel. There is no one there, staff wise, from sometime in the evening until the morning.

I certainly hope none of you have had first hand experience in having to call 911 but just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on how this would work.

Thanks in advance, I'm sure I'm worrying too much but I guess better to be prepared than not. :o

You just call 911. They know the hotels and the area. Just make sure you know your room number. Reedy Creek Emergency is on property.

When you call 911 on Disney property they notify Disney security on all calls. So they would dispatch a Disney security cm to assist with the call.

yes just call them your self disney has there own EMS service Reedy Creek so they can get any where on disney just know your room number also it will be a free ride to the hospital ( celebration is the close) and a free ride back by taxi just ask the front desk for a taxi valchure

Thank you all. I feel as if that problem is solved. Well hoping its a non problem, but if something does happen I feel as if things would go smoothly after reading your comments. Love the Dis people.
gap2368, would that be the front desk at the resort or at the hospital where I could ask for the voucher?

front desk at the hotel I had to go to the ER when I was in the magic kendom when the paraid was going on and the person helping me could not get to the front of the park and she just said ask for it at the hotel when I got there and at 2 AM there was someone there the Taxi driver are used to this and was ok waiting the few minutes for me to go and get it

Thank you so much.
Once again, hoping I won't need all this info but if there was a problem I now feel well prepared. :flower3:

I am not sure I have ever seen Disney hotels without *someone* in the lobby as well. If nothing else, there will be a night audit person there. Hopefully all will go well!

This is very true I have always seen a cast member in the lobby. I have come back at all hours of the day there is always a cast member and a manager in the lobby to handle emergency or noise complaint. They may not do somethings like check in or out or things like that

As others mentioned, if 911 is being dispatched, Disney Security is notified.

But, DVD is very much like the other resorts; there is someone in the lobbies of the DVC resorts 24 hours a day. The latest we have personally checked in was close to 2am at Old Key West and several people were working. People don't just check in during day and early evening business hours.

I have to admit I don't remember seeing anyone at the check in desk at GF Villas late at night or early in the morning, but as you all say, that doesn't mean there aren't any staff around. I'm happy to hear that there would be someone there "just in case." :guilty:

Everyone has been so helpful :thanks:

if it a stand alone DVc like old key west then their be a cm their 24/7 at the front desk. If it a DVc that at a resort like grand then their only be their during the day and over night it be at the main lobby.

The main point is their always be a cm their to help no matter if their at the desk in the long of the DVc of the grand or the main loby. You call 911 they dispatch ocso deputies,Disney security and an reedy creek ambulance.

Edit to add the new animal kingdom one might have a cm their 24/7 and board walk in dose since it attached to the main building. But grand bay lake towers poly and beach club are all separate from the main lobby.

1) We have lots of "911" calls.
2) Both emergencies and perceived emergencies.
3) Have a CAST MEMBER call "911".
. . . just let the CM know there is a medical problem
. . . you can also ask the CM to call for an "Alpha Unit" (the WDW code for EMS)

4) The Reedy Creek EMS will appear almost magically.
5) They are really good !!!
6) If YOU call "911" it adds time for the operator to transfer the call to RCIP (Reedy Creek Improvement District).

NOTE: If you call "911" from any WDW telephone "land line" (Resort or Park), it goes directly to RCIP EMS.

If Someone is having a heart attack running around looking for a cm just wastes time. The ems unit can be there by the time you find someone.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing.
Still, all very helpful information. Hopefully, armed with all this info, I won't need to use it.
Thank you all once again :)

If you are in your room, it is better to call 911 from there because it will be routed directly to the correct EMS for the area. 'Landlines' like those found in your resort room, automatically send the location the phone is at to EMS.
If you use your cell phone to call, keep in mind that:
- your cell phone may not be able to send location information to EMS
- you need to know where you are so you can tell the operator. If you call from your resort room, the phone has the resort and room number listed on the phone
- have your cell phone number ready to give the EMS operator so they can call you back in case you get cut off

In an emergency situation in the parks, don't waste time trying to get to First Aid or trying to find a CM.
IF you see a CM nearby, let them know you have a medical emergency and need medical care. They will be able to get help and, especially in the parks, will be able to give an accurate location to EMS.
Don't try to remember or use CM code like asking for an "alpha unit" or whatever you think the code might be. First of all, you may remember wrong, which would waste time. But, also, the CMs may misunderstand you - because they are not expecting guests to use their internal codes, they may assume you are asking something else.

and remember Disney is probable the best place to vacation with medical problems since they take care of guess so well, at the park there are CM every where, resort there are phones in the room, ( at some phones buy the elevator ) This is why I go to disney so much is because I know if I have problems that they will get help quickly ( I had them called 2 times with in 3 days) also if your friend just need a quiet place to rest for a bit then you can stop in first aid ( I have done this when my medical problem was starting to get bad and before I had to have someone call 911 for me) I honestly would not worry about anything at disney as they have seen every thing and the thing that will happen you will never think would happen.

You may or may not know, when you call the front desk at a Disney resort from your room, you are not actually speaking to the front desk. All calls go to a call center. If you have a medical emergency press 911, don't call the resort front desk first.

Again, all great information. I feel well armed and much more comfortable than before I started this thread.
As you may be able to tell, I'm kind of a worrier, I have to think of each and every problem and solve it (in my head) before it happens.
So, one more question. If I needed to call 911 from the room, do you dial exactly "911" or do you need to press, say "9" for an outside line first?
Grrrr, what more can my head think of to worry about :headache:

Most fire dept have what is called a Knox box key that will let them get a card or key to get into any room. I work as a firefighter and let me tell you we can get into almost anything if we need to.
