What if waitlist comes through after banking deadline?

Sorry if this has already been answered - having trouble finding this specific question.

My use year is August, banking deadline March 31.

I have a 120 point reservation for July that I am on a waitlist to replace with a 77 point reservation. According to the waitlist rules, if it comes through more than 30 days out, 43 surplus points in the use year of the reservation (2019) will return to me.

If the waitlist comes through AFTER my banking deadline, have I lost the chance to bank those surplus points?

Yes, you will have lost the opportunity to bank those points. That’s a downside to setting a waitlist that requires fewer points than the initial reservation. About all you can do is set the WL to expire before your banking deadline.

I'm actually trying to replace two reservations with waitlists on the same trip. If I went ahead and cancelled those original reservations to get the points back before the banking deadline, I would actually get back more points than my yearly allotment (we borrowed to make the reservation). I assume I could only bank an amount up to my yearly allotment?

You’re correct, you can’t bank borrowed points (which would mean putting them back in the UY they came from). Yes, DVC is currently putting borrowed points back, but only for March and April reservations cancelled due to resort closures. I don’t think they’d let you put them back when canceling a July reservation.
