What if I rent out points, and the renter damages the DVC unit?

To what extent am I on the hook for the repairs?

Is there any way to mitigate the risk of getting stuck with a big repair bill if a renter damages the DVC unit? It seems to me that this would be a real drawback to renting out my points.

There has been at least one case where a poster here had Disney trying to charge him for unpaid charges for a relative who stayed there on his points. This was eventually resolved between the owner and the guest. However, the owner is ultimately responsible for costs/damages outside of normal wear and tear, whether it was the owner that was occupying the resort at the time. That being said I don't believe that such a case has ever been reported on these boards.

You would be responsible for the damages I would guess because you are the owner and you are making the reservation for one of your guest. You could try to mitigate it with a contract that they would sign specifically dealing with any and all damages. These are the things us renters have to worry about.
