I'm planning on taking my 14 year old cousin with us on our next trip and I have no idea what ID she will need to get through security. DS has never needed anything as he is only 7.

No ID is needed if they're under 18. But if it makes you feel better they can take a school ID if they have one.

From the TSA's FAQ's:
Q. What ID is needed for minors traveling domestically?
A. Minor children (younger than 18) are not required to provide an ID at the airport security checkpoint. They will just need their boarding pass.

Plutolovr is absolutely correct. No ID is needed for those under the age of 18.

I agree with both of these posters. However, that being said, DS is now 14, and has been flying since he was 5. When he was 7 he started being 'selected' for enhanced security screening. I started bringing along a copy of his BC because if made me feel better. (I do suffer from some travel related OCD). He now has a passport, so we bring that along, even on domestic flights, again, just because it makes me feel better.

When I travel with the nieces and nephews, they bring their passports along, in case a TSO decides to deviate from the rules (which happens quite often)

The TSA officer will ask your son his age. Or, if like the one we encountered, the officer will ask "How old are you? 15?" Trying to trip the my son up. ;) Son answered properly: "Nah, I'm Fourteen... and a half" The specificness of his reply caught the officer by surprise and made him laugh.

Yup, we have traveled with my nephew and my DD is 13 1/2. They both have NYS DMV photo ID's so we have the kids bring them, but this is not a necessary thing. I just feel better knowing they have ID.
