What i think about Taylor Swift

guuuuuuurl you have NO idea. i work in a music store and the ppl who come in and think they're so intellectually superior because they like vampire weekend, julian casablancas, peter bjorn & john, radiohead, tom waits (the list of hipster music-snob elitist bands goes on and on and on)
and i do in fact enjoy most of that music, but i just HATE when people act all snobby and holier than thou because they like "deep" music makes me LOL everyday.

my favourite thing is when some uber smart snob comes up to ask me if we have a certain CD and they go "you probably haven't heard of this band but do you have...[insert "indie undergroud" and/or "old school unknown" band name here]" i just LOL :rotfl:

I feel yah girl. I cringe when someone starts a sentence with "you probably haven't heard of..." Like way to pass judgment, buddy. haha I give you major credit for dealing with these people on a daily basis!

You stupid teenagers don't know what cool is.

you think cool is listen to angsty music because you hate your parents

well. thats news to me. i've been hating my parents for years without even realising.

Name me the bands you listen to in my top 15

i believe i saw coldplay in that list. it may shock you to hear that may taylor swift herself is a coldplay fan. she was at one of their concerts in australia last year. how do i know this? she said it at her concert earlier this month ;)

wow.

Since we're all giving our musical opinions..

I'm going to have to say.. country is the best thing EVURRRR!

Speaking of.. in June.. I have the CMA Fest.. CMT Awards.. and a few country artists fan club partiesss.

no singing ability, immature, self-centered lyrics, lack of overall depth in the music.

YES, IA. She didn't deserve to perform with the goddess Stevie Nicks.

Country music is my least favorite genre. I've tried it all, from Bluegrass (e.g. Sarah Hull) to more mainstream stuff (e.g. Brad Paisley) to crossover (e.g. Taylor) to more indie stuff (e.g. Blake Shelton) but I just can't force myself to like it. I like every other genre, but country is just a big NO for me.

John mayer Sucks

Muse Rules!!!

Boyyy, you don't even KNOW who you're messing with. John C. Mayer is quite possibly the most talented guitarist in the mainstream. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "Gravity" both have long guitar solos where his true talent shows. His lyrics are always from the heart and much deeper in subject matter than most of the bands in your signature. "Stop This Train" and "Heart Of Life" are among the most poignant songs released in the past decade. Call me when your favorites can win seven Grammys in less than ten years.

You mad? Stay mad.

I feel like I should have read other posts on this topic before replying myself, but I didn't. Hope I don't get myself into any trouble :p

I think she's cute, and adequately average entertainer, fairly talented, perhaps a tad uncreative and repetitive in her songs.

No real opinions on her personality, I know nothing of it. However, I assume she has a good sense of humor (I loved her monologue song).

I don't like John Mayer or Muse. They're both so overrated.

Overrated = You don't have a decent reason not to like them, so to be cool you say they're overrated. Don't worry, Shelton, it's fine. I'm the same way with other acts, mostly in the rock genre. (Anberlin, Vampire Weekend)

And Blake Shelton isn't indie...Technically, Taylor Swift is on an indie label. Big Machine Records isn't a major label.

FINALLLY!

Someone who agrees with me

Well I just don't like their music in general, and so many people love it... but I guess that's not a very good reason.

I thought Taylor Swift was with Hollywood Records.

Hollywood Records? Hell no.

That's the worst label of all, next to Island Def Jam. Hollywood will only release your songs to radio if your name is Miley or Jonas. Never mind that they have some potential talent (Demi), and one with a decent pop track record (Jesse McCartney). Jesse has to move mountains before his songs get adds dates, and even then they take forever to take off. "Leavin'" was a good strong start to the record, but "It's Over" flopped because of poor planning. "How Do You Sleep" took off by a miracle, as did "Body Language."

To all you music snobs, go listen to Sade. "Soldier of Love" should be right up your alley. And it's phenomonal. [/shamelessplug]

bleh, i LOVE sade but I HATE that song!!! :headache:
i think it's the arrangement that bothers me, because her voice is amazing, as usual but i'm really really not a fan of the arrangement at all.

The arrangement had to grow on me. It's monotonous and seems like it drags. But after listening to it a few times, I've grown to love it the way it is. It's mostly for the lyrics and nearly flawless vocals. It's hard to believe she's 51.
