What I learned this trip; re: photopass disc

Help! We are totally new to photopass since they had just started it right before our last visit 5 years ago and then they lost all of our Santa pictures I was going to use for my cards so we never did it again.

This trip though I booked a package and with all the coupons and stuff, there is a photopass to "preregister" before we go. It looks like a credit card but does not have any price or anything and to go to the website and look at prices, you have to register first. Does anyone know what the deal with this one is? I have not done anything with it and we will be there next Monday! Should I preregister it now?

Is it better to just skip that one and buy the stock one in the store? From what I am reading, that stock one is the same price as a regular cd but you get some extra photos of DL. It is not any cheaper that a regular photopass cd, right? The cheapest of those would be $60 plus tax and shipping? I read something about uploading your own photos but then the next sentence said you can't add them to the cd so what is the point of doing that?:confused3

What is the cheapest way of getting pics in the park? We would like to get just a couple like dd visiting Pooh and maybe the whole family in Mickey's house and in the past just went to the place on Main Street and bought the pictures already printed up in cute folders, not any cd or stuff you have to print on your own. Do they still do that? How much do those cost now? I don't really need a slew of pics since we have our own camera and take lots of pictures so what would you recommend for us? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Well, I have seen the prices to buy just a few pics and it is easy to hit the $60 mark with just a few prints. That is why I like the photo pass CD that you order, as you get all the photos to print and use as you see fit when you want to. Our last trip (just back) we only took 39 photos, but that includes the Jedi Training and the Mickey Meet pictures as well as family photos all over the park. It is the only way that we end up with family photos of all of us. After I edit them and add borders etc. it will likely end up being at least 100 photos. I think that is an excellent value! I also took 350 pictures on our trip.

You don't need to register your card before you go, but you can go to www.disneyphotopass.com and register yourself and open an account either now or when you return. Then when you have a photopass card with pictures linked to it, you can go to your account, upload the photopass number and then you can look at, edit and eventually order the CD of your pictures, if you choose to.

What I purchased was the stock photos CD and it came with a coupon to order the above disc for free. So essentially you get 300 stock photos and your personal photos all for $60. minus AP discount if you have an AP, and then you have to pay shipping and handling. So it is a great deal.

Once you link your photo pass card to your account, you ony have 30 days to complete your order, or your photos will be deleted. You can pay to have more time if you need it.

I have had the same account for years. EAch trip I link my cards to the account, order my CD, and then 30 days later, the pictures are gone, but I can reload new cards from new trips and start all over.

In regards to uploading your own pictures; you can add borders to them, order prints, include them in photo projects (one year I did a digital album with their custom castle cover and it was beautiful. I included personal photos and also photopass photos) You can even order an archival disc of your own photos, but that is at quite the premium. Not sure if this can include the borders and things that you can add. I don't really feel the need to do this this with my personal photos.

Big Hint: Be sure to take a picture of the back of your photopass card, because if you lose the card, you can still link your pictures to your account with that number.

Also, feel free to get a new card if you ever want a picture but don't have your other card with you. It doesn't matter how many cards you have, you can link them all to your account and then order them all on the same disc.

Take a picture of the back of all of them though:)

PS The disc of stock photos that you can buy at the park that includes the coupon for the free photopass CD online is the exact same disc that you can order online for $40. So that is a great savings:)

Did you get to do all the editing/borders at home? Or was it just the CD with your photopass photos and no editing? Any idea if this is a normal offer or a limited time? Thanks.

Yes, you still get to do all the editing. I think it is possible it could change at any moment. Like all things Disney, right? You just need to check at the photo store when you are in the parks.
