What I HATE about my Wal-Mart

In the mornings, "for security reasons," they will only open 1 or 2 Express, 10 or 20 items only, lines. No regular checkouts. I always shop in the mornings, and have repeatedly requested that a regular line be opened. The response is always that it is a management decision for security reasons. The thing that is a threat to security are the 20 disgruntled shoppers with a single donut or a small bag of cat food that pile up behind me. Sure, when someone comes up behind me before I start unloading, I let them jump ahead, but once they start ringing, the others are stuck. And to make it worse, the express lines don't have the conveyer belts, just a small platform, so it takes altogether longer because I can't be continually unloading as she is ringing things up.

There, I've said it, and I feel better.

I'd still take your Wal-Mart over ours. Ours is a pigpen. It's so dirty and disgusting you literally want to vomit. And the employees are even worse. IF you get a greeting at all, it's a grunt.

Happily, they're building a new Wal-Mart much closer to our home, so there's hope that I will find out what a good, clean shopping experience Wal-Mart can be.:D

Ever think it was possible to get into a fight with a machine?

The Wal-mart around the corner from my work has "self check-out" lanes. (They are no where near advanced as the ones at my local grocery store though.)

I actually started yelling back at the register once...it kept telling me to remove an item from the bagging area - there WASN'T one freakin' item IN the bagging area!

I did have the people behind me in histerics with what I was saying to this register though! hehehe

That really sucks about your wal-mart though...you would think at 7am (when most open) that it would matter...not THAT many people go that early in the AM...you know? I've been there at 7:30 (to get a movie or book the day it comes out) and never encountered massive amounts of people.

I usually do my groceries in the evening after work. But one time while preparing to go away for a week camping I went early in the morning. When I was getting ready to check out I asked the employees if they would be so kind and open up a regular check out for me as I knew I would be holding up a lot of people with my overflowing cart. I was told that they would QUICKLY process my order…..So after a lot of juggling because of the short space you have to work at the express check out and a lot of ugly folks behind me they FINALLY open up a regular counter for all the folks with one or two items in their hand….. It was such a hassle and I got so many dirty looks from all the folks behind me that I swore I would not do it again.

There are 2 Walmarts near me. The first one here still has all cashier lanes, but you have to fight your way through the store....not because of customers, but because of all the boxes in the ailes!! :earseek: The new one has 90% self check out lanes. I have been known to get into an arguement or two with the stupid machine!! I DO NOT want a cash register talking to me!! (If I hear "Please remove last item from bagging area" one more time!! ) The only good thing about this store is that it has a lot more grocery items and the aisles are much wider and the store is very bright.

I look forward to a trip to Wal-Mart almost as much as a trip to WDW.

I know, its sad. I need therapy.

My name is Jill and I'm a Wal-Mart addict.

I'm the same way with Target.

I could wander around Target for hours.

and I always manage to spend at LEAST $60 whenever I go...

You couldn't pay me enough to shop at the Wal-Marts around here. A friend of mine is a manager at a Wal-Mart in another part of the state and even she's horrified and refuses to step into the ones near our house!

The aisles are dirty, there is crud all over the floor, boxes everywhere and you can't get through with a cart and on foot is questionable too. And on more than one occasion we've had the "pleasure" of watching all out fist fights in the check out lines. :crowded: DS is afraid to go in there! DH thinks it's great - but when he was in college in Tennessee they used to go to people watch (bunch of French guys, mostly from the North of France - they don't get out much! )

I stick to Target and Fred Meyers around here!

not walmart but a guy I work with goes to a grocery store at 5:00am on a Sat checks out around 6:00am
they started policy of only having self scan open until 7:00am
he tells the guy I'm not ringing this up myself and bagging it all
guy says you have to
he left cart where it was and walked out cart was packed had at least 40-50 cans of cat food

Uggghhhh! I hate Walmart. I only go there once every couple of months because they are the only store that carries my favorite hair spray. Just the parking lot alone is a pain in the rear. Then I have to fight my way through the narrow aisles, most of them blocked with displays. I can't imagine how many of those things get knocked over on a daily basis. Then the checkout is another experience on its own. I'm a Target girl forever!!

Here's a self check story:

I only go in for a bottle of Dr.Pepper and a new fashion magazine(In Style) and a DVD.The self check would not ring up the magazine since according to that thing it had a weight for price

Come on over! We have a new, shiney one here - has not fallen to crud and fist fights (yet;) )

Once I fix my Wal-Mart fasination, I will work on my obsession with Costco...

I just went to Costco Home for the first time yesterday - spent 30 minutes in the home theater area stuck in a very comfy leather chair with cup holders watching Finding Nemo with DD! :teeth: DS was three chairs down in a chaise lounge watching Spy Kids 3D - I could get used to that place!!

The Wal-Marts over here are just not taken care of - we went to one in Portland and it was even worse! :scared:

DH has already said if they try to build a Wal-Mart out by us (we're outside of Seattle in the "country") he'll fight it  He's the only one in the family that doesn't freak out shopping there!

Oooohhh, Costco! I hear you talking! Love the Costco.

And no, for the life of me, I don't know why it is more of a security issue to have one regular, one express open before 10 am, vs. two express. Had some toothless old coot behind me smirk that maybe I didn't know how to read. There I go....getting all angry again.

That's funny! We were in Tacoma this winter for a hockey tournament and had to run into a Wal-Mart there - my husband (who snubs any Wal-Mart) swore he itched for hours after leaving the store!

Now Costco - I know I just NEED a 25lb can of peanut butter! Its like a drug for impulse shoppers!!

For us it's the 50 pounds of animal crackers and 5 gallons of milk :teeth: The kids love going for the samples and DH loves going for the video games  That 8 pound chocolate cake wasn't too bad either ;)

I can see getting itchy at just about any store in Tacoma ::yes:: I lived there briefly  and couldn't get back to Seattle fast enough!

Give it 9 months to a year.

That's how long it took the one near me to go from "helpful, curteous, clean and kind" to "filthy, grunting hello, and down right rude".

how about the old man behind you giving you a dirty look for only having 3 maybe 4 items to pay for(I felt guilty just for zipping through a self check for chewing gum)
