So I am wondering what types of homemade breads freeze best. Cinnamon? Zucchini? Banana?

I am due Dec. 5th but if the baby is late he could be getting pretty close to Christmas. Add this to the fact that I have a HUGE family that all exchange gifts on Christmas Eve. We are on a budget so I was thinking of making each family a few loaves of homemade bread and wrapping them in pretty dishclothes. I'd love to make them up at the end of November and freeze until Christmas. Anyone else try this?

Whenever I make banana bread, I always make 2 loaves--one to eat right away and one to freeze. I wrap the 2nd loaf in plastic wrap and then put it into a large freezer ziplock bag. I've never had a problem.

I also do this when I bake cookies--double the recipie and freeze half. For the cookies, I usually freeze them in a ziplock freezer bag or a plastic tupperware like container.

I also always freeze my regular bread. (I don't bake that, though, just buy whole wheat at the store.) I take out enough for sandwiches for the kids' lunches when I wake up and make the sandwiches 15 min. later. The bread is thawed enough to spread condiments by then and is thawed completely.

Good luck with the new addition!

I've frozen both banana and zucchini bread. Just double wrap each loaf. I've also made both banana and zucchini muffins to freeze so that DD can pull out one for breakfast whenever she wants.

OP my DD10 was due Dec 5th...she was born Dec 15th...so yes, make your plans in advance, that was a crazy Christmas season. Luckily at the time I worked at Target so was able to get my shopping done early. :)

I've frozen banana bread before, never made zucchini bread but I'm sure it would freeze also. I also haven't frozen homemade bread but I do freeze what I buy from the store, I usually buy like 4 loaves at a time, that lasts for at least 2 weeks here. lol

One year I made 25 different typess of breads the end of November - froze them (double wrapped in plastic) - and gave them out to our guests at our annual Christmas Eve Party on Dec. 25th.. They were such a big hit, they became a "regular" - along with my many, many different Christmas cookies..

Some that I made were:

Banana Nut
Pumpkin
Applesauce Cinnamon
Lemon with Glaze
Almond
Cheese Bread
Cinnamon Raisin

etc.. They all froze fine and were delicious when thawed..

Congrats on the coming of your baby!!! :goodvibes
