I'm booked at POP in January for $55/nt, and I got to thinking what else I could get offsite for the same rate if I bid via Priceline, Hotwire, etc.

So, what have you seen go for $55 or less in the WDW area?

Last March I got what is now the Radisson World Gate for around $45 before taxes.

For under $55 I have gotten the Grosvenor-3*, the Wyndham Palace-4*, the Renasiannce World Gate-3*, the (old Marriott) now Holiday Inn was a 2 1/2* on Hotel Plaza Blvd., the BW Lake Buena-3*. The Marriott Village Little Lake Bryn-2 1/2*... the Sheraton Safari-3*, Sheraton World-3*, Wyndhan I-Drive-3* and many others in a 2* catagory also. It just depends on the time of year & availability for Priceline. Your best bet is to go onto www.biddingfortravel.com and see what others are getting for the time of year you are looking into bidding....

If you don't have an AP you'll wind up having to pay for theme park parking. PL works if you want to SPEND MORE and get a resort but by the time you add the PL fees, a possible resort fee and theme park parking I don't think you'll do much better. If you use something like skyauction, for a weekly stay, you may be able to get a condo.

I got the Amerisuites Calypso Cay (2 1/2 *) for $35 before taxes.

i thought about priceline, but decided to play it safe and booked comfort suites maingate east (3star, best reviews of any hotel in orlando area under $100/night) for $53/night. some of the hotels mentioned above have comparatively mediocre reviews.

Sheraton Safari $40.00.

We're going 12/8 - 12/13/04. We got the mousefest rate of $99 for the Swan for the last 3 of our 5 nights..The first 2 nights were $209 (OUCH!):earseek:

Since we aren't arriving until 9:45 pm on the 1st night I decided to priceline the 1st night. I'll pay the $209 for one night, with the $99 the last 3 that averages out to $126.50 for our 4 nights at the Swan...NOT BAD!

I've heard good reviews about Sheraton Safari...

We'll be up and out early to head to the parks and check-in at the Swan...so we won't be spending too much time there anyway!

What time of year did you get that price? Did you book through the hotel's website or via another online source?
Thanks!

I agree with this. The other alternative is if you want to pay much less but don't mind if it's an older hotel that's a bit threadbare (e.g., we stayed at the Clarion Maingate for $26 once and for $31 another time via Priceline).

The POP for $55 is a good deal--I personally don't think you can find anything better for the price, but then, I LOVED POP.:sunny:

For the price, POP has several pools, a pool bar, a festive foodcourt, an arcade, a lounge, good security, bright clean rooms, free buses to the parks and Downtown Disney, and free parking if you choose to drive your own car to the parks. I much prefer it to the Wyndham Palace and Comfort Suites Maingate which cost as much or more.

LewisC and Floridagirl are right - even if you only consider the price of parking as an off-site guest. $55 for a hotel plus $6 parking puts you at $61 right off the bat.

So, to make it equivalent with a $55 onsite rate, I guess I should then restate my original question - what have you won on online auctions for $49 or less?

That does indeed make it a much harder question to answer!

I have stayed at many hotels in Orlando using Priceline. Take a minute and check out www.biddingfortravel.com for more information about rates. I think the Sheraton Safari is coming in at the mid-$30's.

It is my opinion that I would have to save a lot more than $10-$15 per night to make me want to stay off-site again. I once stayed at ASSp, moved to the Hilton (my DH was on business) and back to ASSp. I couldn't wait to get back to a Disney resort! Your $55 rate is fantastic and POP is a fun resort. I would you should stick with what you have.

Not to be too terribly nitpicking,:) but parking at WDW is now $8 per day.

DH and I are planning to upgrade from our Florida Residents Seasonal Passes to Florida Residents Annual Passes (an extra $100 each) so that we can go to Disney on DH's birthday weekend (which is during the blackout period for the Seasonal Passes).

So we are trying to find a way to justify it in our own minds by thinking we will save $8/day on parking when we stay offsite. (Although, after staying at the POP, I'm not sure I'll ever stay offsite again if I can get a discount code for POP!)

The Hyatt at MCO, 2 rooms at $37 each this March on Priceline.

Actually with the FL res. annual pass (the one with no blackouts) you get free parking. You'll need to come up with another justification:D

We're using the free parking as an excuse to upgrade from our Seasonal Passes (which DON'T have free parking). I just don't think we are going to get $200 worth of free parking to make up the difference though.:)

Floridagirrl2: I've been known to change car rental reservations when the rate has dropped $1.02. So I wouldn't have any problem with the (minor) fact that $8/day parking doesn't quite add up to $200 a season. Just a matter of perspective.....justifying things in my mind comes pretty easily, as you can tell....
