There have been some posts about things to ask your DVC guide for as a condition of buying/closing.

Any examples of what your guide has done for you?

Someone mentioned getting their guide to pull some strings for a reservation they really wanted. Does anyone have examples of that?

Can a guide get rooms that have been blocked for non-DVC members? Like the rooms on the Disney website for the public to book.

TIA!

My guide hasn't "pulled any strings" for me, but than again I've never asked her to do so.
She has called me at check in to ensure everything was going well. I felt that was a very nice touch.

I really like my guide, Kelly Jo. :thumbsup2

Out first guide also used to leave welcome home messages during our stays. Our current guide was very polite and helped us to add-on at AKV. :)

It's not within our character to try to place conditions on a sale.

Maybe I should explain a little, I think our guide is excellent, she is very nice and has not been pushy, which is wonderful. The only reason I ask is because we really, really wanted to use the bonus points for a big family gathering, but right now it doesn't look like we'll be able to reserve anything before about February, which isn't a great time, and then the entire month of March is high season. So if the guides really do have the ability to line something up, it would be nice to know.

I don't want to pay full price so we get the bonus points only to find out they will be no use to us.

Sold me points.....

I think that is his job.... (I don't expect or WANT to hear from him on check in. I don't buy the "my guide loves me theory" They "love" your money and if they are "calling to check on you" it's not because they love you LOL!)

Guides have been able to help with reservations as you get new contracts, but I think maybe you are goign to be pushing it. One villa maybe.... A big family gathering??? It's not like they can get DVC to throw other people out for you.

LOL, I guess I say big meaning probably 12 of us, my family is so small, that to me is big!

I am not a DVC member yet, but I asked my guide to check on room availability for the dates we wished to use our incentive points Oct 07, Feb 08). He was able to do a 3-way call between himself ,the Member Services agent and myself. It would be helpful if you have the dates you wish to book handy, then I am sure your guide can check for you before you purchase your points.

Stinkerbelle's example is the kind of thing that would usually happen. You could have your guide check on available units the size and number you would need for dates you want, and if they are available, they can reserve that at the time you purchase. As others have said, they can't make room where there isn't any. If your guide checks, and you can't find room for the type of reservation you need at the time you need, then I'd likely take the discounted price instead.

She was my temporary guide while mine was out for surgery she was great..
She sold me an add on and more than I wanted. :lmao:

Gudes help me to buy more points and sometimes more than I wanted.

My guide sold me my points and my add ons. I've never heard from him since. Which is fine with me.

We purchased in October 2002, and our guide "helped" us get a 1-bedroom villa at BCV in May 2003. To us, this was a big deal at the time but now that I look back, he was just walking us through the reservation process. May isn't a popular season (I now know) so getting that ressie probabally wasn't a big deal.

He introduced me to DVC, answred all our questions and assisted with the buying process.

I didn't really expect any more help than that.

My thoughts exectly.
Looks as if there are many different expections as to what a guide's role is. May be a bad comparision, but after four home purchases, I considered my real estate agent there to perform a specific role. The particulars with managing my purchase(s) were my responsibility. I never expected anything more.

If I need to talk to my guide then I'll do so. I've added on twice (both with Disney) and have only used my assigned guide once. As for helping with ressies ect, I've never had a problem with talking with MS since we joined. They have always helped address all the options I put forth and have even worked with me for the best use of points when I have cancelled and rebooked ressies (my responsibility). If the expection is that a guide is there to "pull some strings" or if worse some are indeed doing that, then there may be some unfair advantages for certian DVD members depending on who their guide is. This is not a good business practice and I do not think Disney would approve of this practice.

My Guide helped me a lot when we first purchased.

We were staying at the VWL over February break. We were paying cash for our 2BR. We checked in on Sunday night and were leaving on Saturday. We went on the DVC tour on Tuesday and decided to purchase if we could convert the rest of the week to a DVC stay from a cash stay.

My Guide made it happen. There was no question in my mind now as I look back that she was able to get our room put back into DVC inventory so we could use points. At the time I didn't think it was a big deal but the more I learned about DVC from reading these Boards, I realized that it was.

I will always appreciate how she worked to make it happen for us. I am sure she appreciated that we were buying quite a few points as well.

Tia,

I am interested in the above statement you made. Have you heard of other examples? From my perspective I haven't heard or read that guides can do any deals, other then grabbing previous years points for you, but other than that its whatever the current offer is. Can you point me to some specifics?

Thanks

We bought resale so we do not have a guide:sad1:

Actually, you probably do have a guide, but they likely haven't contacted you, so you don't know who it is. Disney usually assigns a guide to every member....doesn't matter how or where you purchased.

We bought resale also but we do get a monthly e-mail from our guide. Other than that, we have had no contact with her at all..smjj

My guide sold me the points, answered questions, and that was it..
It WOULD be nice to hear from him once/year about specials, etc, but I get mailings from DVC about AKV, etc. So, I don't really expect him to do much, but that is ok..
