What has got more and more annoying as you have got older?

Not my post, but I did "like" it, so I feel like I should explain:

A small amount of time in the circumstances you described doesn't really bother me.

What I worry about is how much time many little ones today spend on devices - time that used to be spent on imaginative play and reading (and sometimes even sleep) and it's very easy for it all to get out of balance.
See I came across it so differently
My children were in a childcare centre from the age of 1 surrounded by friends, games, planned activities, outdoor time.
Screen time in the evening is what they needed to zone out and relax.

I stand by what I said and you throwing a fit and carrying on about it just proves my point.
Well I think it’s an awful thing to say!
not sure how it proved your point?
Are you implying I have no morals Or that I’m in my 20s?

So I’m stating here that no I do not agree that all young people have no morals.
I think they are a great generation and will go on to do marvellous things!

Im so sorry luv that you have such a negative outlook on young people. I hope someday you can have a positive interaction with someone that changes your mind.

Lack of morals in the younger generation, say 20-30 year range.
Genuinely curious as your comment is rather broad. In what sense of morals are you talking about? I've heard all the "respect for elders, kids these days, etc" type comments but honestly haven't heard they lack morals so I'm unsure what you're meaning by that.

Social activities that last past 9:00pm :rotfl:
Ugh I have felt like this for years!

I said this a few months back, think it sums it up:
"went over to my father-in-law's place to sample so hard liquor cocktails from his subscription "box" he has. Small amounts in each sampling but it was like 8pm and all us in our early to almost mid-30s were like...uhhh we need to get this started soon if we're going to do this :rotfl:. "

The stupidity of some people.

I used to think most people were nice and thoughtful. Not so much anymore.

I’m not sure people in the 50s (for example) are nicer than we are now. They had some pretty backwards ideas.

there have been numerous studies showing how too much screen time affects the brain development in young kids. This in turn manifests into behavior problems when they approach early teen years. No more than 30 min a day for young kids. Have them read or do something that encourages imagination

that’s really to bad-

People my age (50) and older complaining about younger people being on their phone when driving when they do it all the time. It drives me crazy! By me, the older people on their phone when driving is more than younger people - it’s terrible!

Well they are both late teens now and no behaviour problems in the least.
So bugger those studies. I know my kids.

There are also several studies in the last few years showing that it isn't really bad for them. Things changes all the time. Eggs are good for you. Eggs are bad for you. Etc. I get what you are saying to a point. But I think you assume that kids on tablets are just zoning out watching videos. My kids play a ton of eduational games on theirs. Math games, spelling games, games that encourage problem solving, puzzles. Games that allow them to create characters and worlds that certainly use their imagination far more than sending them outside to play on the swingset. They read books on Epic or the amazon kids app. They do all sorts of things besides watch youtube. Sure I could kill a bunch of trees and print off worksheets that would help them learn the things they are learning on the games.... Or I could let them learn in a way that they enjoy. And you know what.... If my kids are getting good grades, behaving well in school and sports, I really don't think an hour or 2 in the evening, snuggling on the couch with me, playing on their ipads is the worst thing that can happen to them. We don't live in the same world as we used to. My kids have had Ipads issued to them in school since kindergarten. 95% of their school work is done on them, at least for my 5th grader. Also, I don't understand why people assume that parents who allow their kids to use tablets in restaruants don't engage with their kids. Like, if I'm at home with my kids all weekend, I can guarantee you, I engaged with my kids A LOT. So if we go out to eat on Saturday night and I let them play on their ipads while waiting for food in a busy restaurant, it's not like they didn't get time with me or that I didn't engage with them the whole rest of the dang day. Just because I'm a parent does not mean 100% of my time has to be focused on my children. I'm also allowed to want to have an uninterrupted conversation with my husband.

Also did you know that tablet time can be used to help with behavior problems?

The only thing about screen time that I think is generally known/understandable is vision issues. That's a problem many of us experience. Longer you spend looking at a computer or tablet or phone screen the increase you can have in vision issues. It's very common.

Wow this got personal real fast and I can't figure out why. Everyone here was and is making general statements not meant to personally attack any individuals child or a particular age group. Most of us don't know anyone here on a personal level but if you are comfortable being the wokest person in town continue to do so. If you are ok with your childs screen time or tummy time or anything else then great. Pointing out why one person's annoyance is wrong is like reaching into the void. Nobody is changing their opinion because you have an opposing view or experience.

Alright PSA over, knowing I have to deal with holiday family has me a little sensitive.

Quick question and a little OT, but I'm curious and I don't really know anybody right now with kids in elementary school:
Based on your comments on how much the iPad is used in learning, are elementary kids today doing much handwriting, either printing or cursive? Already 10 years ago, when my DS was finishing elementary school, they hadn't had much practice cursive writing and now as an adult, he prints everything. Is handwriting in general something kids are still taught?

They do still write some stuff. And even on their tablets they can use a stylus to write. But im
Pretty sure they don’t really make them handwrite much
