We are still (1 year later) debating whether to buy into DVC or not. One question I have is what happens in 2042 or 2054 when all the points expire? Do you lose your "vacation club"? Will Disney turn around and start selling new points to new members and making money again??? That doesn't sound right to me...Either way, we are hoping to go to WDW in April next year and may go on a DVC tour then (haven't done that yet). Maybe that will help us make up our mind.

I'm not sure what the newest rumors are. Officially, and what I believe the contracts say, is that after the 2042 and 2054 - the contracts expire and members no longer have any rights to usage of points. So, yes - after those dates - it's gone. What Disney will do with the resorts after is all rumor. Also - whether some sort of discounted ownership options will be given to current members is rumor as well. If it weren't for that darn expiration thing - I could talk my DH into an OODLE of points!

I'll be 95 when my BCV points expire. If they were SSR points, I'd be 107. By then the building themselves will also be geriatric and need expensive updating (which most people don't consider when they look at permanently-deeded timeshares). So the whole issue doesn't worry me.

I'm not concerned either. I feel like I will have my initial investment back in less than ten years...that still gives me over 25 years of what I consider "free" vacations. My only hope is that I'm still going strong enough to use them!

I'm curious as to what will happen between 2042 and 2054. Will the other DVC resorts remain in operation for the exclusive use of SSR (and any other new property) members? If so, adding on an SSR contract is tempting, especially if I end up as a 70-year-old who is still willing, able, and eager to travel.

I agree. I think a much more likely prospect is for the existing buildings needing replacement - not updating - before 2042 or 2054.

I look at my contracts as long-term leases of increasingly affordable vacation options...nothing more, nothing less.
