What happens when your (discontinued) phone breaks?

I have a G'zone Boulder from Verizon, got it about a year ago. We got the insurance on it thankfully.. well now it's cracked and won't charge unless it's at a 45-degree angle. (:confused3)

I'm going to call a little later when I have some time to devote to dealing with verizon, but what usually happens when your discontinued phone breaks and you need to get a new one through the insurance? Do they just send you any crappy old phone?

I don't know as I've never had to turn in a phone that was discontinued, but I do like Verizon customer service.

I'm only guessing, but I would think that they may replace your discontinued phone with one of comparable value and performance. Or, with one of the same that they may have still in stock, or with one of the same that is refurbished (as many replacement phones are...).

Good luck to you!

This happened to us twice with Verizon. First time, we didn't have the insurance, and there were no promotions showing up on our account, so we had to pay out of pocket for a phone. I think it was around $200, for a no-frills phone (not the same model that broke). The second time, we had the insurance, but the phone we had was discontinued (just like yours). Verizon sent us a refurbished model of the same phone - we never had any problems with it.

I can't say for sure but I'd guess they would offer you a refurb phone or credit towards new one.

Cool :) OK, it doesn't *sound* like they're just gonna give me some poopy phone, so anything more than that is awesome. If I get the same phone but refurbished, that's probably the best thing, or maybe a credit toward something else. I liked this phone because it was waterproof though (well until the darn thing cracked!)

I'm going to give them a call shortly, I wish I could have a drink afterward, I hate dealing with any kind of "customer service."

We just went through this. DD phone had water damage. Our insurance gave us the same make phone, different model. It was actually a upgraded phone. We only had to pay the deductable.

We had insurance through Alltel (I guess now Verizon) and the insurance company dictated what phone we could get... either that one or nothing at all.

I would presume that pending on how your insurance is worded, that your replacement phone would be something equivilant to your discontinued phone.

Last time it happened to me, I was offered a refurb'd of my old phone or I could take the newer version of the brand. I opted for the newer version myself. It was Sprint though and I've always had good luck with them. Hopefully Verizon would offer the same.

I'd like the "newer version" but it's $150 with a 2 year contract! LOL This is it right here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5089

This is the one I have now: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2328115,00.asp I think I paid $79 for it? It was clearanced lol

I just hope they don't send me some little crappy "free" phone that's going to last 6 months.

I was going to file the claim tonight, but the website says that I'll have my phone tomorrow.. but I won't be home to sign for it. SO I'm just waiting another day.

Wish me luck!

Most of these service contracts are just promising a refurb anyway, and they've typically got refurbs available long after the phone is discontinued.

Well I had the Droid Charge and they are currently discontinued and have been for about 2 years so it was having problems so i called in and they told me they would need to send me a new device. they checked and they are no longer in stock and they will never be making anymore so they asked would i settle for a Samsung Galaxy S3 and i was like "Heck Yeah" my last phone was free with the 2 year contract and this is awesome because i had insurance so the other phone was free!!!! FREEEE Samsung Galaxy S3!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
