with all this hurricane fun. It got me thinking about our upcoming trip. Points and cash booking. So...how does that work? Get our points towards another cruise? Go into holding ? We did buy DvC trip insurance. With I know covers maintace fees. Just didn't know if anyone else has experienced? This or knows the answer?

For hotel stays for this hurricane, they are returning the points from where they came from and can bank current year points, even if you are past banking deadline but if you had banked points from the previous year, they will expire at your use year date.

Issue is that a cruise is a points trade. Once points are traded out of DVC, the trade is final. I suspect they are refunded but must be used for a Disney Collection booking.

Technically, yes, but since Disney owns the companies on both ends of the trade, it shouldn't be any real problem to reverse it and refund the transfer fee. They'll use the same "system" (facetiously speaking) that they used to immediately extend my BCV room for 5 days in case we couldn't get a flight home during this storm, then let me cancel the booking today (the day the new booking goes into effect), and then remove the points from holding and un-bank them. The booking was done by central reservations, not member services, on points. (Who knew?)

My cousin fell ill and had to cancel his Disney Cruise. Points were refunded but had to be used for a Disney Collection booking.
Since he couldn't travel he made a reservation for us at Caribbean Beach. Worked out ok for both of us. I think he absorbed the transfer fee while we paid him for the points .

Technically, two divisions. I suspect it's harder than you think from an accounting standpoint. DVC has more control in-system than with any trade -- including with other divisions of Disney. Separate P&Ls.

It's possible, but they seem to be saying they'll reverse it completely. (For those unaware, points traded for the disney collection, including for a disney cruise, are called "reservation points") Granted it specifies resort evacuation, but reversing reservation points for a WDW room would be the same process as for a cruise.

Canceling Your Reservation

If you must cancel your reservation due to Hurricane Irma, all Vacation Points and Reservation Points will be returned to the Membership in the way they were utilized for the reservation.

Refunds for Early Checkout or Resort Evacuation

For Vacation Points and Reservation Points: The Resort will communicate with Member Services to return Vacation Points and Reservation Points to the Membership in the way they were utilized for the reservation

See, I read the "in the way they were utilized" to potentially mean they stay converted.

If it weren't vague and inconclusive, it wouldn't be Disney, right. I had the same debate in my mind but went with "all the way back to how it was before".

As a rule Disney does very well in recovery phase AFTER something happens, what they don't do well is plan and prevent where possible (at least on the DVC/resort side). Obviously they can't control the weather and it's effects. I would agree the wording is vague but I suspect they will reverse the process all the way back to DVC points AND allowing banking past the deadline.

Yes Disney is very accommodating on changing back, even when they don't have to. We had a Mother of a snowstorm couple winters ago, our flight was cancelled and couldn't get out for 3 days. Disney banked our points and cancelled our dining with no penalties. Snow storm wasn't their fault or covered in there hurricane policy, but did it no questions asked. The only question they did ask was when our new flight was so they could have MDE notified of the change. Best 4 day vacation we have had.
