Soooooo what happens when you are late for an ADR???

Hopefully this doesnt happen to us, but I know my family. LOL I'm trying to decide whether or not to tell them that we have an ADR for about 15 to 30 minutes earlier than we actually do.

TIA:flower3:

It depends on how late you are. If you are really late, say over half an hour, they may consider you a no show and your ADR null.

We almost missed a breakfast ADR at the Kona Cafe because the taxi we called never came. We ended up being over 40 minutes late. According to the hostess the only reason they hadn't cancelled our ADR was because the monorail was having problems, so they knew people were having trouble making it in.

Actually, Disney recommends being to your ADRS 15 minutes before your scheduled time. So you may want to keep that in mind when telling your family your ADR times.;)

It depends. Some places will not honor the ADR after 15 minutes if they are very busy. Last Saturday night we went back to the resort to take a nap and overslept. Our ADR at Via Napoli was for 6PM. When we arrived at 6:45PM the place was jammed with walk-ins. They took our name, looked up our ADR and we were seated at a table for 2 in 3 minutes. I think that was unusual. They started turning away walkins as we waited for our table.
I would have not been disappointed if they turned us away. We know the rules. We had a salad for two, shared a cheese pizza and had ice cream. It was DH's birthday so he got a little cake with a candle.

We've been late with a large group a few times and had different things happen. When we knew some in the group would be late for Biergarten, I went to the wait stand and explained. The host said it wouldn't be a problem, and I remembered his name. When we got to the Biergarten (maybe 30 minutes late), the person at the wait stand told us, basically, SOL. When I said I had talked with <name>, she accommodated us quickly.

Another time, we were late for BOMA by about 10 minutes, and we waited over an hour to be seated. However, I've also arrived at BOMA before, or right on time, and still had to wait an hour.

I suggest letting everyone in your party know that it is important to get to the ressie 15 minutes early. Then, if you know you will be late, call the restaurant to let them know.

Rule of thumb they can give you a 15min grace period, after that it is given to a walk up and yours is cancelled.

This is rule of thumb, because if they are busy and have tons of walk ups waiting they don't have to wait 15mins, they can immediately determine you a no show and give your table away.

We found this out on a trip in 2009. It was Ohana and my friend was meeting us for dinner. We arrived 15mins early and tried to check in, but she was not there. (note you can't check in unless your entire party is there)
I called her and she was stuck in traffic on property, so we told the manager. He said if she was 1min late we wouldn't be seated as he had dozens of people waiting.

She arrived with 1min to spare and we had to fight with the manager to honor it, as he wanted to call it being late. Wasn't a pretty evening and put a real damper on the meal.

FYI....don't be late and if family/friends are notorious for being late, tell them an earlier time. ;)

In December we were waiting at a restaurant that was running behind schedule. At the podium the CM told people that they would only check in complete parties and that if the missing people didn't show up in time, the reservation would be cancelled. I guess at that point you would have to decide if you wanted to give up the meal or your slowpoke family members.

I'm afraid about oversleeping for 1 of our ADRs --- we have a 7:15am breakfast. Do you lose your credit if you oversleep and miss your ADR? (assuming they can't seat you if you get there late)

No you don't lose the DDP credit.

If it's an ADR that required a credit card guarantee when you booked it (one of the dinner shows, CRT, Akershus, Fantasmic pkg, etc) then your credit card will be charged as a no show. Also if one of your party is not there, your credit card will be charged for that person's no show.

Thanks! It's not one that requires a cc.

Some places will not honor the ADR after 15 minutes if they are very busy.

I have seen this happen. With the chronically late (like my sister) I usually tell them the time is like a half hour earlier than it actually is, but as soon as they get wise to this, they start tacking on that half hour and end up arriving even LATER.

So in this case, I would tell everyone the exact time and let them know that after 15 minutes you will all be out of luck. (You may not be totally out of luck, but you want the procrastinators to think you definitely will be.) Or, make one set of ADR's for the prompt & considerate, and another set for the late & inconsiderate. ;)
