What Happens to the Extra Pins?

We just got back from WDW and my kids had a great time trading pins. My daughter always likes to collect lanyard pins when she is there and I got to thinking if they are adding lanyard pins to the lanyards every day they also need to take pins off the lanyards, this number is certainly in the hundreds per day and maybe even close to a thousand. I got to wondering what happens to the tens of thousans or even hundreds of thousands of pins removed from CM lanyards each year. Anyone know?

I know they have pin parties where the cm's are able to buy pins cheap, like 10 for $10. But the CM's lanyards aren't just outfitted w/ cast lanyard series pins, they are just a random assortment of the pins that came in on hte lanyards, they refresh the lanyard series, i'm sure. but they are not the only pins on their lanyards when they start the day.

The pins in the grab bags are not those pins, the pin party pins are still on their backings and are new. I believe when ones are pulled off then they are mixed into the grab pile that they refresh lanyards with.

Depends on the pins...

Some pins get put in the "refresher pins" box if they are good, some get put in the "currently saturated but still good" box and the rest get put in the "never will see the light of day again box" where they get turned in and trashed.
