What happens to ROFR points?

I hope I posted this in the right forum and apologize if it is in the wrong place. I am curious about what happens to all of the points that Disney buys when they exercise the ROFR option? For example, if Disney buys back someone's OKW points tomorrow...does Disney sell them again? Or do those points just go back into inventory for cash rentals?

I was under the impression that the only points actually being sold by Disney now are the points for AKV and the Timeshare Store only facilitates sales between current owners and potential buyers. If Disney frequently exercises the ROFR on lower-priced contracts, wouldn't that make that particular resort eventually have fewer owners?

They do offer points from soldout resorts, they have waitlists. They could keep them for cash reservations but I doubt they would make much profit on them that way.

There is no such thing as a sold out resort as ROFR is exactly where DVC gets their points to resell to those of us who want to purchase resorts other than SSR or AKV.

So I can call my guide and get on a waitlist to purchase points at VWL or BWV?

thats what I did back in 2006...I called my guide and insisted that I wanted VWL and not SSR...my guide said what UY's were available and that was that. Some times you may have to wait until points are available, but usually it's no more than a few days or weeks. If you don't care what resort you get then buy what DVC offers, but if you want a "closed" resort, then don't give in to what your guide offers. A good guide will sell you only what you want.

You do not get any of the incentives if you buy a sold out resort direct from Disney, but you do get your dues prorated for that year depending on the month of the year you bought, and you get a contract with the current UY points. So if this is July, and you bought an October UY you would get '07 points if you bought now (or before October), and you would be paying MF only for July (or whenever you bought) through December this of year.

you probably already know this but if not, be aware that VWL and BWV expire in 2042.

(a few people have been confused and assume that buying direct means a 50 year contract - but, except for OKW, older resorts end in 34 years regardless of whether you buy direct or resale.)
