do they still go, i'm especially interested in the stingray city tour but looking at weather.com for tuesday next week it says rain, will dcl still go on beach excusions or do they refund money? what is their policy? thanksd ahead of time

This is a very good question - I know BD will probably answer "you get wet" but really - what does happen?!

Short of rough seas, or unsafe weather, the excursion to stingray city goes, rain or shine. Not that it matters, you're going to get wet anyhow. And honestly we went out under the threat of rain, it didn't rain long enough to matter. Rain in the islands is a lot differnt, it doesn't linger, it rains a bit and moves back out over the ocean. And if the excursion is cancelled, you will get a full refund.

I know that shoretrips.com says that but unsure of the others and DCL policy. Thanks!!!!!

Last June on one of the early 7 day Western cruises, we had TORRENTIAL downpours in every port. It rained so hard we couldn't see Grand Cayman while we were anchored just offshore, and the streets around the port in Cozumel were above ankle-deep in water.

As we gathered in the Walt Disney Theater before leaving for the beach, they gave everyone the choice of going or getting a refund.

Although we accepted the refund for the beach, my DS12 and I decided to go snorkling later in the day and had a good time. I expected the water to be very stirred up, but it was suprisingly clear.

Someone else (djs113) just posted recently that their Stingray City Excursion (w/ Nativeway) was very choppy and some were seasick due to bad weather or some cold/front in Mexico(sorry can't remember exactly). He also said this is very rare for that area in Grand Cayman. He said that the same excursion thru DCL was cancelled so I'm assuming that DCL has different guidelines for cancelling their excursions than private companies. My guess is that DCL may take more precautions and cancel if the weather is questionable in order to make their passengers safe. I wonder if DCL can answer this. When I called to book an excursion recently, I got the impression that the person I was speaking with was totally clueless about any of the excursions.

Hi tezb.

When I called to book an excursion recently, I got the impression that the person I was speaking with was totally clueless about any of the excursions.

Perhaps you dialed the wrong number???

Good morning Rae.

I know BD will probably answer "you get wet"

It never crossed my mind... lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning BD - so it never crossed your mind, ehhhh? And just when were you at that wet t-shirt contest?! HUH?!

Rae

Buckaroo's Dad - I can always count on you to make me laugh! You are too funny! Glad you're on this board...

He sidelines as both a comedian and male dancer, or so I have been told!

Right, Bubby?!

Rae

tezb - thank you.

Rae -

And just when were you at that wet t-shirt contest?!

Not my style. As far as I'm concerned, a woman's beauty goes far far beyond her chest. You see, I'm a devout leg man...

He sidelines as both a comedian and male dancer

If I tried to make my living as a dancer, I wouldn't even earn enough money to be poor in Biafra...

or is he seen as one in the same???? his male dancing is viewed as a comedy act???? just kidding

Hi RSL&PRB.

or is he seen as one in the same???? his male dancing is viewed as a comedy act????

Actually, I think you're onto something here... lol...

We were in Grand Cayman last week and had rough seas and showers. Thankfully we were booked on Capt. Bryan's. From what we were told by other passengers, the morning Disney excursion went out, but they wouldn't let the passengers in the water.. the guide jumped in and held up a stingray, then they completely cancelled the afternoon excursion to Stingray city. Being private, Capt Bryan's still went and left it up to us. We went in despite the huge swells and had a blast :)

Now see I'm just the opposite. I would rather NOT go out in a boat in bad weather and just opt for the refund. I like it that DCL would take extra precautions in the case of bad weather. I'm not a huge ocean person so going out on a boat in bad weather does not appeal to me....just my opinion.

Good morning tezb.

I'm not a huge ocean person

Just wait till AFTER your cruise when you've had a week of fabulous, unending Disney dining...

Unless it's severe/dangerous rain and/or lightning, the excursion goes on as planned - those people can't afford to lose their pay for the day because it's raining.

I did a mountain biking excursion in the rain at St Thomas & then the next year did the Eco Hike on St John in the rain. I'll be back there one day next week - needless to say I will NOT be booking any excursion since I seem to bring rain on every visit!

Hey Buckaroo....I know I have been on 2 DCL cruises so far and love it! I just mean that I'm not comfortable w/ anything smaller. However, we are doing the Stingray City excursion so I'm hoping for calm waters when we go.

I wouldn't mind going out in the rain just don't like the choppiness...don't want to spoil our excursion by getting seasick. Will pack the bonine!
