What happens to DVC if Disney is sold?

I’m sure there is an existing thread, but I can’t find it.

What happens to our DVC contract if Disney is bought? I’m seeing a lot more chatter about this now that Warner Bros is in play.

Can you point me to an existing discussion or conclusion? Thanks!

It would be up to the new owners. Presumably they could then sell DVC to someone like Marriott, but I don't think Disney is in a situation where it would need to be sold for scrap so that seems unlikely any time soon.

Realistically nothing. The theme parks and resorts division is so profitable that if the whole company was sold, they would keep this part in-tact and run it like today.

I pay pretty close attention to Disney financial news and, other than maybe a passing comment here or there, I have not seen anything like this buyout speculation in any financial press. Where are you seeing it?

There was speculation that companies like Netflix or Apple were interested in Disney but it's just speculation. No actual news. Just people (or just as likely, AI) writing articles for clicks, the internet is lousy with them. Someone reads it and takes it as gospel, then enough people repeat it and eventually it's just accepted as fact.

Exactly what I suspected...

I didn't pay attention to it until I heard it mentioned on Pivot (Swisher/Galloway). They sometimes get inklings of offers before they are public. It's all speculation, certainly not gospel.

Thanks for responses!

Well, if Disney is sold, it’s possible it’s broken up and then sold.
Sure, it is possible that DVC is spun out of the organization that owns the theme parks, and/or Parks & Resorts is spun out of the organization that owns the current (and generates new) IP.

It is possible that I will get hit by lightning driving home tonight.

But, I think they are all about as likely, and I'm not spending time worrying about any of them.

Realistically, there’s probably only five companies with the kind of cash flow that could afford Disney, Apple, Microsoft, Google, amazon or possibly Saudis pubic invest fund.

The only real possibility is Disney deciding to break off into segments, that would put way more companies into play.

Just because a company says they want to buy Disney or are considering it doesn’t make it even remotely likely. I would say you have a better chance of having a home you live in on Mars before Disney sells to anyone in any of our lifetimes. Also given how interwoven the IP with the studios and parks and cruise line are it would be either impossible to sell part of the company or unprofitable which makes it even less likely.

Did you make it home OK or did the heavens strike? Please let me know so I can plan my investment strategy. Thank you! :rotfl2:

Even in the highly unlikely scenario of DVD being sold to someone else, the resorts will stay in the same - mostly great - locations. 😉

Actually, per CNBC's annual media predictions, Universal will be the one getting bought up, no predictions of a Disney buyout at all...
